Job Summary:
San Francisco Javier is seeking candidates for the role of Maintenance Technician. The role encompasses maintenance and repair duties for church, office/classroom building. This is a full-time hourly position reporting directly to the Business Administrator and Pastor.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of San Francisco Javier Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at San Francisco Javier Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:
· As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of San Francisco Javier Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
· Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
· Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
· Work with the Business Administrator in keeping the property maintained and in operating condition.
· Perform light repairs to electric, plumbing, carpentry, pool, HVAC, appliances, and other related repairs.
· Follow company maintenance, safety and operational programs, policies, and perform preventative maintenance.
· Adhere to maintenance budgets through cost and time-saving suggestions and inventory control.
· Light janitorial work as needed.
· Communicate with the staff and management regarding potential delays, part shortages or any other issues specific to performing timely and accurate maintenance.
· Perform property and common area inspections and report any damage or maintenance work that may need to be performed.
· Assist in any maintenance or cosmetic-related tasks.
· Comply with company safety policies and rules and OSHA safety standards.
· Participate in company training classes, meetings, and other events intended to introduce staff to new ideas and improve overall performance.
· All other duties as assigned by the Pastor, business manager and parish secretary.
· Occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
· A strong desire to help people within a thriving Catholic community.
· Flexibility to handle any tasks or assignments including that outside of normal responsibilities.
· Effective communication skills for interacting with a broad range of individuals and circumstances.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
· High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
Experience:
· Three to five years of experience in maintenance and repair work.
Language:
· English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
· Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.
Catholic Requirement:
· Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
· Valid Texas driver’s license.
· Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
