Position Title: Recreation Intern
Accountability: Recreation Intern reports to the Recreation Manager

About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.
The Recreation Intern is responsible for implementing adult and youth programs under the supervision of the Recreation Manager. In this role, the Intern will assist with program development and execution of programs including, but not limited to run clubs, races, group outings, hikes and Scout programming. An ideal candidate will have great interpersonal skills, a love of the outdoors, be self-motivated and have a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
- Attend outside marketing/tabling events to help promote programs and events.
- Create plans for ongoing and one-time events and programs and execute them with help from other Education and Programming staff.
- Lead group activities with other staff and independently.
- Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
- Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
- Successfully pass a standard background review.
- Must have reliable personal transportation.
- Must be willing to wear a uniform and work outside.
- Available to work nights and weekends to support events.

Experience & Education:
- Pursuing a degree in relevant field (recreation, event management, education, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Suite (outlook, excel, word).
- Experience with Canva.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Good written communication skills.
- Comfortable working autonomously as well as working in a team environment.
Location:
The Recreation Intern will work on-site at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, NC and will have the opportunity to work remotely at times.
Schedule:
The Recreation Intern will work approximately 24 hours a week. The preferred first day is Tuesday, May 20th and last day is Friday, August 8th. Dates are flexible to meet academic schedules.
Compensation:
The intern will be given a $2,500 stipend to be paid biweekly. Work activities that require the use of a personal vehicle may receive gas mileage reimbursement upon supervisor approval.
