Position Summary: Paraprofessional Educator
The Paraprofessional Educator is a qualified individual who meets the requirements to work in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Denver. The paraprofessional educator is hired by and directly accountable to the principal. The paraprofessional educator is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. The para cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education and helps build a Catholic culture in the school, ordered towards discipleship. The para will assist the teacher in planning daily activities in accordance with the curriculum and aligned with the educational plan for individual students. The para will provide academic instruction based on classroom guidelines and procedures. The paraprofessional educator will maintain records and data as instructed.

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities):
- Teach and act in accordance with doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Know, teach, and act consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Catholic school.
- Work collaboratively with the lead teacher and Inclusion Coordinator and Student Services Coordinator to utilize a multi-sensory approach to keep students motivated and on task in the general education setting.
- Provide instructional support in the classroom. Instructional support may include
o working one on one with students with exceptional needs
o preparing educational materials
o assisting with classroom management
o implementing instructional strategies
o assist with educational assessment
- Cooperate with administration and fellow staff members to provide a robust formation experience for our students.
- Consults and collaborates with the special education department for the purpose of ensuring the appropriate delivery of services to ensure successful growth towards student’s goals and objectives.
- Educate and inspire students to grow spiritually, socially, and academically.
- Provides compassionate, patient, resilient assistance for students with moderate to intensive special needs.
- Provides in-classroom support for all students in an inclusive classroom.
- Obtain and maintain required training, certification and/or credentialing as needed.
- Participate in all Archdiocese of Denver in-service and training programs and participate in all local school sponsored professional development and inclusive training programs and initiatives unless exempted or excused by principal.
- Attend all required faculty and staff meetings, unless exempted or excused by principal.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and work environment.
- Participate in annual performance review based upon the implementation of the essential duties of the paraprofessional.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.
- Follows established procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of students.
- Follows a schedule for the purpose of providing efficient and effective student services.
- Building a strong relationship and rapport with students, parents, and classroom teachers.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
- In accordance with Catholic Social Teaching, hold deeply the belief in the dignity of the human person and the Church’s obligation to provide an inclusive educational environment for all students.
- Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
- Effective listening and verbal communication skills.
- Must work cooperatively with school staff and administration.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of and willingness to implement safety and emergency procedures.
Education and Experience:
- Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Requires appropriate training, certification and/or credentialing as necessitated by school and student needs.
- Compliance with Safe Environment requirements and passes a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to execute appropriate safety and emergency procedures, including leading evacuations and providing basic first aid.
Hours:
- Required workdays are Mondays through Fridays.
