JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Operations, the Medical Assistant is an essential member of the care team to help coordinate daily patient care in the oncology clinic. Works to continually improve patient satisfaction and holistic care.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Effectively documents and navigates the Cerner EMR system.
- Works in conjunction with the physicians, APPs, and registered nurses to provide comprehensive and safe patient care while implementing the orders which were given.
- Reviews the previous visit note / treatment note and flowsheets prior to the patient’s scheduled office visit and ensures all ordered tests results are available and in the EMR for physician / APP review.
- Prepares patients for evaluation and management of care by obtaining and documenting vital signs and any new patient issues / concerns in the EMR.
- Reviews patient medications for accuracy at every visit; documents any changes in medications in the EMR in a timely manner.
- Reviews lab orders entered by physician / APPs and coordinates in-house labs or performs phlebotomy as needed.
- Obtains pre-certifications, sends any required documentation and schedules / coordinates patient hospitalization, and applicable procedures / diagnostics; coordinates patient procedures done in other facilities with insurance network.
- Triages and takes appropriate actions to manage patient needs when requested over the telephone; frequently checks missed phone calls / voicemails and returns messages in a timely manner.
- Restocks exam rooms with medical supplies and paper products.
- Completes all clerical required duties in timely manner such patient care forms, medical histories, reconciliation of medications, managing the MA fax line, scanning documents in the EMR or etc.
- Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Maintains collaborative working relationship with all other employees.

Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma (required). Associate degree in healthcare (preferred)
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Medical Assistant Certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant and / or EMT license / certificate (preferred)
Work Experience: One or Two years of general medical office experience (required) and 1 or 2 years years of Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician or Emergency Medical Technician (preferred)
