The Community Connections Partnership Coordinator conducts outreach to increase public awareness and decrease public stigma about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Cambria and Indiana counties. The Coordinator identifies and establishes referral partnerships with community organizations and agency partners serving eligible households to increase SNAP participation. The Coordinator works independently and as a member of a team to implement an outreach strategy that aligns with the priority populations identified by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
SNAP and Food Bank Programs Outreach
- Contribute to the development and implementation of an outreach strategy to promote SNAP among priority populations outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Food Bank’s strategic plan.
- Provide program information about SNAP to individuals or
- households that are potentially eligible.
- Conduct outreach to increase public awareness of SNAP and decrease public stigma regarding SNAP.
- Deliver presentations about SNAP and other Food Bank programs (i.e., food pantries, direct distributions, Child Nutrition programs, etc.) to a variety of audiences.
- Provide outreach materials to community organizations and/or community events (i.e., senior centers, farmer’s markets, pantries, universities, libraries, etc.) to target potentially eligible households.
- Maintain a record of partner communications and support provided to community organizations and agency partners for SNAP outreach reports.
- Attend in-person outreach events that align with the implementation plan to raise awareness about SNAP and other Food Bank programs, as appropriate.
- Share relevant information about community resources with the Resource Center team and the Programs Department.
- Assist the Community Connections Partnership Supervisor with tracking data/results from outreach work.
- Engage in local, regional, and national conversations about SNAP and other federal nutrition assistance programs.
- Provide back-up support to the Resource Center and The Market as directed by leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Establish Referral Partnerships
- Establish and maintain positive connections with community leaders and organizations to foster community-based collaborations that enhance SNAP participation.
- Identify and engage community organizations that serve communities and/or other priority populations that could benefit from SNAP.
- Participate in community meetings and/or local coalitions to develop in-depth knowledge of communities across southwestern Pennsylvania.
- Educate community organizations and agency partners about effective outreach strategies to increase SNAP participation.
- Identify new and emerging best practices for SNAP outreach and partner referrals to ensure strong referral partnerships.
- Distribute outreach materials (such as print and digital media, referral QR codes) to community organizations and agency partners to facilitate SNAP referral process.
- Provide technical assistance and support to community organizations and agency partners to ensure successful referrals to the Food Bank’s Resource Center for SNAP application assistance.
- Respect the geographic and cultural diversity of agency and community partners and their participants by becoming familiar with customs and behaviors at various locations.
Qualifications:
- This position will be based in Cambria and Indiana counties, providing opportunities for in-person work at community partner sites, virtual work, and occasional work on-site at the Food Bank headquarters in Duquesne, PA.
- Previous experience in direct service in the social and/or human service sector preferred.
- Ability to work independently, in a hybrid work environment.
- Ability to work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with audiences with diverse needs and abilities.
- Disposition and willingness to innovate, problem-solve, test, evaluate and adjust.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using client/customer relationship management software like Salesforce, preferred.
- Able to work evenings and weekends as needed to support the achievement of project goals and objectives.
- Must possess a vehicle and valid driver’s license. Work travel, if required, is reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate.
- Ability to obtain Act 33, Act 34 clearances.
