The RMC Medical Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily unit operations of the unit assuming responsibility for the quality of care rendered in an efficient and effective manner. He/she is accountable for assuming clinical care, budget operations, and patient/customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties
- Actively engages in interviews and other staff recruitment initiatives.
- Approves and implements department policies and procedures.
- Communicates pertinent hospital and patient care information to staff.
- Creates an environment of teamwork and collaboration to improve staff satisfaction and enhance retention.
- Prompt the team for rounds to start on time, and help keep the team focused.
- Develop and promote new programs to strengthen Riverside's reputation and market position.
- Establishes and maintains excellent physician relationships and works to resolve medical staff problems on time.
- Establishes and maintains QI standards and measurements.
- Establishes and monitors unit productivity and ensures appropriate staffing at all times.
- Integrates the departments into the mainstream of Riverside HealthCare in support of the organizational mission.
- Manages and provides leadership in financial matters regarding budgeting cost control and revenue generation.
- Manages the daily clinical operations of the unit.
- Oversees clinical services in all areas of assignment to promote interdisciplinary team development and movement along the continuum.
- Participates and contributes to assigned committees, teams, and task forces, including community service if applicable.
- Provides leadership and direction for ensuring quality patient care.
- Provide leadership and direction for improving patient/customer satisfaction.
- Review Visionware reports to ensure appropriate staff levels and skill mix on a daily basis.
- Reviews Press Ganey to improve patient satisfaction/teach/create initiatives.
- Support/ensure development and maintenance of nurse/physician collaboration.
- Satisfactorily complete all required continuing education hours regarding the care of acute stroke patients.
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of clinical experience
Required Licensure/Education
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing,
- BSN required.
- Current Illinois RN license
- Effective 4/01/2024: Upon hire or within 12 months of start date, must complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification.

- TB or Airborne Pathogens: Patient diagnostic presentations do pose high risk; however, usage of protective wear, appropriate size TB mask from fit test and universal precautions reduces risk.
Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch):
- Speech: Required to communicate with patient/families/staff/doctors, coworkers, ancillary personnel and other department heads. Ability to ask for help.
- Vision: Required to observe patients and their physical assessment, ability to read reports, ability to read machines.
- Smell: Helpful to note presence of incontinence, vomitus, blood; electrical/fire safety.
- Hearing: Necessary to hear alarms, calls for help and to hear patient verbalizations; ability to listen for lung, bowel, heart sounds.
- Touch: Necessary to assess patients, need to distinguish between hot and cold.

- Carry charts 25'- 150' waist high. Filled laundry bags are filled half full so as not to weigh over 35 lbs.
- Carry fire extinguishers up or down 3-4 flights of stairs and several yards in an emergency.
