Job Description:
EMC Precision has provided complex parts in low- to mid-volume quantities expertly machined since 1925, and we are currently looking to fill the position of Quality Engineer in our Sheridan, IN facility. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support to all areas of the plant in assessment, implementation, and maintenance of quality systems that meet or exceed IATF16949 (formerly TS16949) standards. In addition, this engineer will be responsible for working with our customers to resolve quality issues, understand customer quality requirements, metrology methods, and complete customer audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement standards and methods for inspection, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and evaluation
- Design sampling procedures and protocols
- Create forms and instructions for recording and evaluating quality and reliability data
- Establish programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment, testing measurement, and analytical equipment/facilities
- Develop and implement procedures for handling discrepant materials and methods to assess cost and responsibility
- Monitor and analyze quality trends
- Interface with customers and supplier representatives on quality issues
- Determine root causes and implement corrective actions for quality or process issues
- Direct team members engaged in measuring and testing products and compiling quality data
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement and cost reduction initiatives
- Support overall company productivity by performing temporary assignments as required (with proper safety and operational instructions)
Experience
Required Experience:
- CQE designation/certification or relevant degree in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing quality experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing quality systems and processes
- Strong structured problem-solving and analytical skills
- Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word) and project management software
- Working experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of and experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), 8D problem-solving methodology, IATF 16949 requirements, and internal auditing procedures
- Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Experience in precision machining or manufacturing environments
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
