Specialty Clinic Oncology Nurse Coordinator
Position: Full-Time

Position Summary
The Oncology Nurse Coordinator provides direct nursing care for hematology/oncology patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assessing patients
- Administering cancer treatments
- Explaining the treatments and answering questions for patients
- Managing the side effects of cancer treatments and helping manage pain
- Monitoring vitals of patients
- Coordinating patient care with all other providers
- Supporting the emotional wellbeing of patients
- Providing information on resources for family members
- Performing assessment, access, and maintenance of venous access devices
- Performing phlebotomy procedures including starting peripheral IVs and drawing blood from midline catheters, peripherally inserted central catheters, and ports
- Acting as a resource to other Cancer Clinic nursing staff and participating in the development, maintenance, and implementation of educational initiatives and policies and procedures
- Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
- Complying with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
- Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor or Hospital Administration
Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
- Skilled in providing a safe space for patients undergoing cancer treatments
- Strong communication skills to explain treatments to patients and share information with Physicians
- Collaborate well with other care providers
- Strong understanding of cancer treatments and research to support patients
- Knowledgeable of HIPAA regulations
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements
- Moderate physical activity, requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds
- Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment

Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska
- Obtain (prior to May 1st, 2024) and maintain oncology certification
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
- Experience in oncology preferred
