Wheeler Power Systems (WPS) Site Superintendent is safety-minded leader responsible for the safety and performance of several subcontractors in the special projects division. Success in this position will be determined by the projects being completed safely, on-time, on-budget, and with high-quality. The WPS superintendent reports to the Power Systems Special Projects Manager and will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and schedules with subcontractors, vendors and peers. They will work to ensure both Wheeler’s and the customer’s goals and objectives are met or exceeded in building these turnkey facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Wheeler Power Systems (WPS) Site Superintendent is growth-minded leader responsible for the safety and performance of several subcontractors in the special projects division. These special projects typically consist of full turnkey power plants with buildings and may include a wide-variety of electric power generation types---from small diesel- or natural gas standby and emergency backup power generation, to large natural gas engine-driven generators for municipal and COOP utilities. They also may include battery energy storage systems (BESS), UPS, Switchgear and solar projects. The WPS Site Superintendent reports to the Power Systems Special Projects Manager and will be responsible for
- Execute and record Action Plans and Inspections in project management software (Procore) with all needed documentation.
- Create and maintain project schedule from master schedule in project management software (Procore Outbuild). This includes, but is not limited to, a commitment to weekly updates, follow up on outstanding issues, and documenting decisions and action items from each week’s site meeting.
- Manage to master schedule. This position requires deep understanding of how the phases and tasks of the project affect the master schedule and must manage those accordingly. This means you must document any obstacles or risks to achieving milestones and communicate those with team each week and contribute to potential solutions required to remove those obstacles and manage those risks appropriately.
- Overseeing daily operations at a worksite to ensure the completion of projects in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
- Operate the total station instrument to measure distances, angles, and elevations on construction sites according to project requirements and specification for all layouts and quality control.
- Their duties include monitoring supplies deliveries and current status/location of needed tools and equipment. Verify materials delivered to the job for quantity, quality, condition and check for missing and/or damaged materials/items.
- Record and store items in a safe and organized manner and space.
- Prepare accurate and detailed daily reports, including measurement logs, survey notes, and equipment maintenance records.
- Work closely with other team members, including project engineer, and operations manager (person who manages Procore access), and purchasing/inventory manager and others to achieve project objectives and to ensure seamless coordination of all construction activities.
- Cooperates with quality control, safety program and coordination of subcontractors as delegated by the Project Engineer.
- Prepares daily field notes with photos, observations, change events, incidents, and so forth, in project management software (Procore). Communicates any potential conflicts or misunderstandings quickly and amicably.

Required Qualifications:
- Proven successful management experience in a technical field--preferably within the electric power generation industry.
- Understanding of electric power generation
- Proven understanding of and commitment to developing and maintaining a culture of safety.
- Team player with demonstrated success and competency in working with external parties (customers, suppliers, contractors) and related documents (specifications, change orders, contract documents, submittals, drawings. Etc.)
- Team player with demonstrated success and competency in collaborating with internal departments or companies: management, customer support or service departments, safety department, and so forth.
- Proven ability to set and achieve meaningful goals and help others do the same.
- Excellent communication skill—especially writing and listening with the intent to understand.
- Excellent abilities to organize, manage time and priorities, and give attention to detail.
- Must be willing to work the hours required to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
- Customer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship
- Decision-making skills for selecting competent personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets and perform quality work.
- Communication skills for providing clear orders, explaining and simplifying complex information to clients and construction workers and discussing technical details with other building specialists.
- Effective planning skills, including understanding of and accounting for challenges with design execution, resource allocation and contingencies
- Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Effective leadership abilities, including motivation, goal-setting and conflict management
- Minimum four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
