Susquehanna Printing Company is looking for a Prepress Production Specialist to join our team! The Prepress Production Specialist will be responsible for maximizing the efficiency of production in the Pre-Press department. They will be responsible for  building display ads using InDesign in AD-Track for print and Photoshop for Web based ads. The Prepress Production Specialist will also type accurate ad copy, process and edit supplied digital files to meet press specs, and accurately proofread to assure that final advertising copy, photos, and graphics match customer supplied material. They are also responsible for efficiently editing existing ads to specs sent by sales staff.

Essential Job Functions:

• Performs tasks in a safe and efficient manner, immediately addressing any safety issues or deficiencies that may arise.
• Proficiently operate all production computerized systems and software.
• Ability to look outside the box for creative solutions to everyday problems.
• Create compelling, clean, accurate, error-free ads in a timely manner. Reading and following supplied layouts with detailed instructions or sometimes with minimal or incomplete information while being creative.
• Set/type advertising copy
• Proofread files understanding proofreader marks, checking spelling and grammar for accuracy
• Process electronic data (PDF, JPG, TIF, EPS, etc.) provided by customers via email, FTP sites, websites or supplied disks
• Proficiently tone electronic color and B&W photos including quality cut outs as needed
• Work with customer supplied files so they reproduce properly in the paper
• Ability to edit customer supplied PDFs in Acrobat and or Pitstop
• Identify potential print problems and or errors, prior to the files being published
• Operate scanners on PC platform
• Make suggestions to improve policies/procedures
• Type Mailbox Markets into web forms
• Run reports to assist in classified pagination
• Work with e-mail, websites or FTP sites, such as but not limited to, downloading artwork for ads or comics/ puzzles for editorial
• Assist the Pre-Press department in other responsibilities to assure that all publications are produced in accordance with established production timelines
• Report to work on-time, work full shift and work overtime as needed
• Able to work a varied schedule, days and times based on anticipated departmental workloads
• Handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven, team environment

What are we looking for? 

Qualifications:

• Degree in graphic arts or significant related experience
• Understanding of PC operating systems
• Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Software preferred
• Ability to learn proprietary production/pagination software
• Good working knowledge of color theory and be able to convert that theory into      practice
• Good color vision as demonstrated by successful passing of color acuity test
• Hard copy proofreading experience preferred with proficiency in English language
• Typing ability for ad copy

Physical Requirements:

• Performs work required for this position in an office environment.
• Remains sedentary for moderate to extended periods of time.
• Required to use a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on occasion.
