The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.
Qualifications / Attributes:
The JFORCE Program Manager must demonstrate the ability to be open to give and receive feedback in a respectful manner, be an active and respectful listener, be encouraging and supportive of new ideas and suggestions, be a user and receiver of varied means of communication, and be consistent in their delivery of service and interactions with members and colleagues. The JFORCE Program Manager must also be timely, specific & clear with expectations, and hold oneself and others accountable. These leadership qualities are expectations of the position and help the Levine JCC to maintain integrity and build a cohesive team.
POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide leadership for the JFORCE program in all functions including the development, delivery, and implementation of the programs, as well as supervision of JFORCE Instructors who staff the program, in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Levine JCC. Ensure for the delivery of high level customer service for users of the JFORCE programs as well as supervision, mentorship, and leadership for the Instructors who staff the programs, ensuring that we are striving for and achieving excellence in customer service experience for the Levine JCC members, program users, and guests.
The JFORCE Program Manager promotes cooperation, participation, and harmony within the Fitness and Wellness Department and the Levine JCC as a whole, creating a sense of collegiality and professionalism in the team environment. The JFORCE Program Manager is part of the Levine JCC Staff team and serves various needs throughout the department, participates in departmental and agency wide staff meetings and events. In addition to leading the JFORCE Program, he/she will share in fitness center duties and in center-wide organizational tasks and program delivery as directed by the Director of Fitness and Wellness or the Senior Leadership Team of the LJCC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The JFORCE Program Manager is expected to :
- Ensure for the development and implementation of a dynamic functional interval training program that compliments and enhances the Fitness programs of the Levine JCC.
- Serve as the Lead Trainer for the JFORCE program, instructing all classes on the weekly schedule.
- Provide excellent customer service to the JFORCE program participants, being personable and helpful; and greeting Levine JCC members and users of the JFORCE program every time upon entry and exit to class.
- Supervise the JFORCE program and activities, ensuring for member safety and an exceptional customer service experience.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the JFORCE program; ensuring prompt and complete follow up with all member inquiries and/or concerns.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Levine JCC members who contact the JFORCE Instructors or JFORCE Manager for their customer service needs; ensuring that emails, phone calls, and other forms of communication are returned promptly, meaning within 24 hours, and with adequate information as it pertains to the situation/outreach.
- Recruit and retain JFORCE program users, seeking to maximize the number of the Levine JCC members who utilize the program. Ensure personal follow up with any JFORCE program users who discontinue their JFORCE program enrollment within one week of cessation of their recurring registration so as to understand their decision and try to retain their participation, as well as the active recruitment of the Levine JCC members through visibility and presence at Levine JCC programs, events, and in the David Silverman Fitness Center.
- Assist the Director of Fitness and Wellness with the hiring, orientation, and provision of necessary Professional Development seminars for the JFORCE Instructors on all aspects of the JFORCE program.
- Ensure the JFORCE program is appropriately staffed, including writing the monthly JFORCE staff schedule, as well as the coordination of and staffing by substitutes when necessary, including staffing by the JFORCE Manager on a daily basis.
- Provide direct leadership and supervision for the JFORCE Instructors so as to ensure they are providing an inviting atmosphere in which members feel comfortable approaching the JFORCE Instructors for assistance with the Fitness equipment, concerns, customer service needs, as well as questions about Personal Training services, or other Fitness and Wellness programs or classes.
- Ensure that JFORCE Instructors are provided a safe, healthy, and intellectually stimulating work environment through direct supervision, mentorship, and guidance.
- Manage and oversee the JFORCE room and equipment.
- Recommend new program or service offerings that may strengthen the JFORCE program.
- Partner with the Director of Fitness and Wellness to ensure that all JFORCE Fitness Instructors are evaluated on a continual basis in accordance with the expectations laid out by the Director of Fitness and Wellness, Levine JCC Leadership Staff, and HR department.
- Ensure all JFORCE Fitness Instructors develop a core understanding of all Levine JCC Program and Service Departments, including the Judaic and secular holiday and special event programs and celebrations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Fitness and Wellness to ensure the development of marketing tools including social media, print media, and any other forms of communication deemed necessary for marketing purposes.
- Utilize social media no less than 5 days a week to develop and foster a “micro-community” of JFORCE program users.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce Levine JCC rules and policies.
- Respond to accidents, incidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly, and professionally.
- Keep accurate records regarding equipment repair needs and communicate them to the Director of Fitness and Wellness as well as the appropriate maintenance person, whether that is the Foundation of Shalom Park or an outside contractor.
- Ensure the JFORCE program has and maintains necessary supplies to deliver the functions of the program, including informing the Director of Fitness and Wellness when the procurement of new supplies are needed.
- Ensure that the value of the Levine JCC membership is communicated in both philosophy and vision to Staff, members, program users, as well as partner agencies and organizations inside and outside of Shalom Park.
- Coordinate joint programming where possible and when mission alignment is present.
- As needed, the JFORCE Program Manager will be the Manager on Duty (MOD), being the point person for agency wide emergencies and any concerns that need managed with authority in the moment.
- Perform regular walk-throughs of all facility areas, checking for cleanliness, safety concerns and member compliance of rules and regulations.
- Respond to accidents, incidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly and professionally.
- Support the fitness center as a staff member, routinely covering fitness center shifts including weekends, and evenings as needed.
- Supervise fitness center and gym activities, ensuring for member safety and exceptional customer service.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce fitness center rules and policies.
- Assist in the oversight of the adult and family locker rooms, including the steam rooms, saunas, restoration rooms and massage room.
- Ensure wipe dispensers and towel stands are well stocked.
- Launder towels and clean equipment as needed.
- To perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as needed under the supervision of the Director of Fitness and Wellness or Senior Leadership Staff of the Levine JCC.
Decision Making by Co-determination:
The JFORCE Program Manager makes independent decisions when necessary regarding responsiveness to safety of equipment and facilities, as well as member and program user needs and concerns.
The JFORCE Program Manager communicates on a regular basis with and supports the guidance and direction offered by the Director of Fitness and Wellness and, when necessary, the CEO, on decision making regarding the daily functioning of the David Silverman Fitness Center, apprising the Director of Wellness and Fitness and, when necessary, the CEO of any challenges that are currently being faced in a timely manner.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Personal Trainer in a group setting.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Demonstrated ability to provide supervision and leadership for a team, experience in a supervisory role highly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of building relationships with members.
- Ability to address concerns and complaints with professionalism and customer service as the focus.
- Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred.
- Maintain Personal Training, Group Exercise, and CPR certifications.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with members, staff and vendors ? Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
The JFORCE Program Manager must:
Demonstrate skills in leadership, effective management strategies, and organization, creativity, and flexibility, excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills necessary to work with adults.
Possess knowledge of or willingness to learn, Judaic culture and traditions including but not limited to Jewish holidays, rituals, and customs.
Possess the ability to articulate the influences of Judaic culture on our programs to members and staff. Be sensitive to cultural differences, demonstrate flexibility and enthusiasm in work style, create a positive and harmonious workplace, effectively manage time and responsibilities, and understand individual leadership styles and their influence on the well-being of the department staff.
Must have the ability to maintain a flexible working schedule to accommodate the Fitness and Wellness Department needs.
Must also have the ability to work as part of a team with other staff members and members. Must promote high standards of program excellence; resolve conflict effectively and demonstrate maturity as well as the ability to get along with a variety of people; respond effectively to constructive criticism and give constructive feedback to colleagues, and ensure that an environment which fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive and emotional development is developed and maintained.
Must be physically capable of manual labor that includes lifting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to operate Fitness machinery including Cardio and Weight training machinery. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Must be able to reach overhead and to the floor repeatedly in a shift. Must be able to work 8 hour shifts standing.
