Industrial Maintenance Technician Assistant (Mechanical & Electrical)

Charleston, SC | Full-Time | Starting at $60,000+


Southern Lumber & Millwork is a third-generation, family-owned and operated building materials supplier serving Charleston and the Lowcountry since 1941. We supply lumber, millwork, windows, doors, and specialty building products to custom home builders, remodelers, contractors, and homeowners throughout the region.


We are seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to help maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve the equipment, machinery, vehicles, and facility systems that keep our operations running efficiently.


This position is ideal for someone with experience in industrial equipment, machinery maintenance, heavy equipment repair, electrical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, or facility maintenance who enjoys solving problems and taking pride in a job well done.


Monday-Friday. No nights. No weekends. No on-call schedule. Paid weekly.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Uses manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to troubleshoot heavy/industrial equipment.
  • Uses hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment on heavy/industrial equipment.
  • Uses multiple resources to find replacement of parts/equipment.
  • Climbs up onto, under, and into machinery to gain access to various parts of heavy/industrial equipment.
  • Must be comfortable with heights and confined spaces.
  • Performs inspections and preventative maintenance includes but not limited to change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, hoses, may drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
  • Uses power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint equipment.
  • Perform light automotive and industrial electrical repairs as per policies and procedures.
  • Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment for new or rework projects, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand electrical code specifications, schematics, drawing and equipment manuals.
  • Proficient using various electrical measurement tools when performing duties.
  • Perform all other duties or assigned tasks by management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum one year of experience working on industrial equipment, heavy equipment, manufacturing equipment, machinery, or similar mechanical systems
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, or servicing equipment preferred
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs preferred
  • Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, industrial maintenance, or facility maintenance experience is a plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read technical manuals, parts diagrams, schematics, and equipment documentation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver's license required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, and climb beside, onto, and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs daily and repeatedly
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs and research technical manuals
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift or position parts to perform repairs or service and manually handle parts as heavy as 100 pounds
  • Must be comfortable working around industrial equipment, machinery, heights, and confined spaces

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing or servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems
  • Must be willing to learn new processes, adapt to changing priorities, and follow instructions
  • Job duties may extend beyond mechanical maintenance to include electrical work, facility maintenance, and general repair work as assigned by management
