In addition to building, the organization has also repaired homes throughout Houston due to natural disasters; since Hurricane Harvey Houston Habitat has repaired more than 700 homes for families who are without resources to make repairs.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller will support the company’s financial initiatives as the senior position in the accounting department reporting to the CFO. They will work closely with team members to complete and assist in all month-end closing processes and procedures. 


The person in this position must be able to adapt to changes, multitask, and provide customer service to internal and external partners. This person must have expertise in current accounting standards knowledge and must utilize technology to proficiently complete daily tasks. The Assistant Controller will have a wide variety of duties within the accounting department but will also work closely with other department leads to obtain accurate and complete information.

Requirements

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all month-end duties as assigned within the first 9 business days of the following month, including but not limited to, lease amortization, deprecation, home sales, prepaids and construction in progress.
  • Collaborate with the construction department to ensure invoices and purchase orders in ProCore are accurate and complete. Synchronize the invoices weekly with QuickBooks and Bill.com.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete property tax portfolio and coordinate timely annual tax payments.
  • Responsible for timely SAM registration renewals for Houston Habitat, Robins Landing and Family Housing Corp.
  • Maintain and distribute monthly home sales summary report to the Homeowner Services department.
  • Assist in year-end audit documentation preparation and interface with auditors as needed.
  • Support team members in resolving issues efficiently.
  • Identifying opportunities for team and individual training and skills advancement.
  • Other associated duties as required to help fulfill our mission.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience with GAAP accounting standards.
  • College degree in accounting or related business field.
  • Training or experience in one or more of the following applications is a plus: QuickBooks, Bill.com, and Procore.
  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.


Physical Requirements:

  • This position will require sitting at a desk for most of the day and the ability to type.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Some work conducted at various Houston Habitat facilities, or other locations in the Houston Metro area as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the company’s insurance policy is a prerequisite. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run for insurance purposes.
