Job Summary:
The GSP Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management, and development of a team of hourly and salaried manufacturing engineers, engineering technicians, and toolroom machinists in a high mix production environment. The department is responsible for providing manufacturing processes, programs, fixtures, tooling, and troubleshooting for both NPI and legacy hardware while collaborating with other departments to meet the goals of the business.
Duties/Responsibilities/Outcomes:
- Owning the process engineering, programming, manufacturing engineering, and toolroom functions.
- Provide leadership, feedback, and guidance to the engineering team including hourly and salary performance reviews.
- Coordinate with the VP of Engineering and Engineering Program Manager to prioritize and schedule engineering tasks.
- Facilitating communication between engineering teams and other departments
- Responsible for adhering to department metrics and budgets.
- Managing engineering resources, including budgets, equipment, and personnel.
- Drive continuous improvement and champion engineering initiatives and projects.
- Collaborate across sites to leverage skills, knowledge, and skill gaps of the entire engineering team.
- Participates in estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs such as: tooling, material, finishing and associated outsourcing costs, to provide information for formal quotation process.
- Support the CapEx process by owning the technical and financial evaluation of proposed CapEx expenditures.
- Ensuring a positive and collaborative team culture.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and direction work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Position requires an independent thinker with strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes with a focus on metallic aero-engine components.
- The ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply technical documents/specifications, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with and present information to employees and customers at all levels of the organization including top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Basic computer skills, manufacturing ERP software, CAD/CAM software, MS Office.
- Must exhibit attention to detail with a sense of urgency and strong follow up skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field with four or more years of applied experience; or six years of related experience and/or training in a CNC machining environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
