Founded in 1846 to care for the children of sailors in the Port of New York, Seamen's Society for Children and Families ("Seamen’s Society”) was one of the first organizations in the US to care for abandoned children in family settings, rather than institutions. Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive $28 million nonprofit organization that offers foster care and adoption services, mental and behavioral health care services, prevention/family stabilization services, domestic violence intervention services, a health home care management program, education financial support, a childcare center, and a youth tutoring program. Job Summary:
The Associate Vice President, Community Services will oversee the agency’s preventive and domestic violence programs and play a key role in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that promote family well-being and enhance community engagement. This position will also support efforts to identify emerging community needs and build strong partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders to expand and improve service offerings. This position will focus on continuous improvement, utilizing data and client feedback to enhance service quality and ensure that the agency’s community-based programs are impactful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the agency’s preventive and domestic violence programs, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and program(s) goals are met while supporting staff development
- Recruit, develop and retain program staff; establish high standards for performance and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with contractual funding mandates, staff training requirements, and applicable laws and regulations
- Establish and build collaborative partnerships with community organizations to support existing programs and advance the agency’s strategic priorities
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality services that are accessible to diverse populations, aligning with the agency’s mission and values
- Develop and utilize metrics to assess program(s) effectiveness and community impact, leveraging data-driven insights to guide programmatic design, execution, and enhancements
- Represent the agency in community meetings, coalitions, and public forums
- Support efforts to retain existing programs and build new programming through strategic grant writing, partnership development, and community outreach

- Lead and participate on agency committees to support organizational objectives
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social work or related field required
- LMSW required
- Minimum of five (5) years of senior supervisory experience required in program leadership, community engagement, or nonprofit management
- Proven experience in program development and outcomes, evaluation, strategic planning, and community engagement
- Extensive knowledge of social impact strategies and trauma-informed care, with a deep understanding of family treatment, supporting survivors of domestic violence and providing solution-focused case management
- Experience in grant writing and resource development
- Team-oriented with excellent leadership, relationship-building, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and community partners
