Position Overview
The Customer Service & Security Event Staff Supervisor at Southern Methodist University (SMU) is responsible for overseeing game day operations and managing event staff across various roles, including ushers, ticket takers, and security personnel. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring both customer service and safety standards are upheld during all SMU Athletics events.
Supervisors will serve as the main point of contact for frontline staff, assist with pre-event briefings, monitor staff performance, address issues in real time, and ensure compliance with event protocols. Events include home games for Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, and Women’s Volleyball. Opportunities to supervise external events in the Dallas area may also be available.
This is a seasonal, part-time position with the majority of shifts scheduled between August and March.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Previous experience in event staffing, customer service, or security supervision required.
- Large event experience strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to lead a team and maintain a professional, calm presence in high-pressure situations.
- Comfortable providing on-the-spot coaching and support to staff.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays during the event season (August–March).
- Must be reliable, punctual, and adaptable to a fast-paced environment

Hourly Rate Starting at $18.00/hr while working as a supervisor and $14/hr for training. If no supervisor role is available and you want to work the Customer Service pay is $14/hr however working a Security role the pay rate is $16/hr.
