The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Bellerive Country Club (“Bellerive”) supports the Golf Course Superintendent in the planning, supervision, and execution of daily golf course maintenance operations. This role requires a strong foundation in turfgrass management practices, including bentgrass greens care, moisture and fertility programs, pesticide applications, and irrigation system maintenance. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for leading maintenance staff, managing resources efficiently, and ensuring consistently high-quality playing conditions.

Scheduling & Operations
- Plans and manages daily work assignments using the Advanced Scoreboard Task Tracker, ensuring efficient task distribution and alignment with course priorities.
- Coordinates Team Member break schedules and manages transportation to and from break locations, maintaining operational flow throughout the day.
- Proactively monitors weekly Team Member overtime and communicates with the Golf Course Superintendent to implement corrective measures to reduce unnecessary labor costs before payroll deadlines.
- Collaborates with the Senior Assistant, Assistants-in-Training (AITs), and interns to ensure a shared understanding of daily plans, priorities, and responsibilities.
- Completes digital scheduling by midday for the following day to inform all staff of upcoming equipment needs and crew assignments. Maintains accurate labor logs and oversees time tracking via Paylocity.
- Updates job boards daily with current and upcoming assignments to ensure clear communication and transparency across the team.
- Prepares weekend schedules at least three (3) days in advance to guarantee proper coverage and balanced workloads across shifts.
- Reviews the daily tee sheet, golf events, and course activities before leaving the maintenance facility to ensure alignment with golf course setup and staffing.
- Oversees end-of-day operations, including cleanup of work areas, storage of equipment, sanitization of shared spaces, and securing the facility for the evening.
On-Course & Facility Responsibilities
- Leads daily golf course setup and ensures tasks are completed efficiently and accurately to meet tee time requirements and event standards.
- Provides hands-on training and clear expectations for Team Members to ensure tasks are performed correctly and job descriptions are fulfilled.
- Verifies staff follow assigned task sequences and routing for operational consistency.
- Ensures all equipment is operated safely and Team Members are using proper personal protective equipment as needed.
- Maintains overall course presentation by addressing on-course housekeeping tasks such as straightening stakes and ropes, removing debris, refilling sand receptacles, and identifying weed issues.
- Manages irrigation scheduling using moisture meters, weather forecasts, and on-site weather stations to ensure optimal greens moisture and efficient water usage.
- Maintains an orderly and clean maintenance facility, including offices, tool rooms, irrigation areas, and wash pads.
- Ensures daily cleanup of the break room and proper storage and maintenance of carts and equipment to promote a professional and efficient work environment.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or other members of Bellerive’s leadership team.
- Must have the ability to balance multiple projects and have strong project and time management skills. Must possess high attention to detail.
- Must display an aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take direction, and exercise good judgment. Must have the ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.

- The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee for them to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday and having the ability to transport fifty (50) pounds. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. May need to use personal protective equipment at times, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots, and hat.
Qualifications / Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field preferred.
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited two (2) year Turfgrass Management program is required.
- Additional training or coursework in areas such as equipment mechanics, landscape design, surveying, or environmental science is a plus.
- Possession of a valid State Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe).
- Prior experience serving as an Assistant to a Golf Course Superintendent at a comparable facility is preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience within a golf course of club setting, with a proven ability to lead teams effectively is preferred.
