The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) (www.youthlaw.org) is a non-profit organization that for over four decades has worked to ensure low-income children have the resources, support, and opportunities they need for healthy and productive lives. 


Position


The Senior Development Associate or Development Manager will play a key role in securing grant funding for a diverse range of high-impact system-reform projects including shutting down the school-to-prison pipeline, defending the rights of immigrant children, protecting LGBTQ youth and students of color from harassment at school, and transforming foster care systems. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing $9 million-dollar national organization with a 40+ year legacy of advancing youth rights across the country. 

Requirements


Essential Functions

  • Manage writing and submission of letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and reports to funders in partnership with staff working across NCYL
  • Draft, edit, and proofread all funder-facing content and correspondence
  • Continually update and improve NCYL’s development content library 
  • Research funding opportunities and identify new ways for NCYL staff to engage with funders through conference presentations, events, and collaborations
  • Contribute to organization-wide and campaign-specific development strategy and planning


Required Qualifications

  • Experience writing letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and/or reports to foundation funders
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytic, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Aptitude to quickly learn programmatic content and convey that information in clear and compelling written communication
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to successfully execute multiple projects on time with quality results
  • Enthusiasm for working in a diverse workplace and collaborating with diverse team members


Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years of development or foundation experience
  • Experience managing and submitting multiple grant proposals and reports simultaneously
  • Passion and experience fundraising for programs that serve children and youth
  • Familiarity with Salesforce as a grant management tool 


Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time position in Oakland, California. Salary is comparable to similar organizations in the Bay Area with a range of $60,000 to $75,000 annually. NCYL provides health, dental, life, short and long-term disability insurance, sabbatical, sick, and vacation benefits, and an employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan.
