Location: Cherry County Hospital- Valentine, NE 69201

Job Status – Full Time (36 hours)

Schedule: Nights 6:15pm - 6:45am

Compensation: Competitive wage

Sign-on Bonus: $12,000 - $15,000 depending on experience

Shift Differential:

  • Sunday – Thursday Nights - $3.50/hour
  • Friday – Saturday Nights - $6.00/hour
  • Weekend Days $2.50/hour
  • Charge Differential: $3.00/hour


Position Summary

Under the supervision of the physician or other health professional, demonstrates proficiency in administering the fundamentals OB/GYN nursing process. Shares responsibility for individual patients or an entire mother/baby patient population.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

· Greets and registers patient upon arrival.

· Initiates admission assessment immediately upon arrival to the unit including pain assessment.

· Completes admission assessment of the patient immediately according to procedure.

· Initiates a written care plan upon admission.

· Monitors patient condition throughout shift according to unit care standards, including the reassessment of pain.

· Demonstrates ability to interpret changes in patient condition, fetal monitoring systems and abnormal lab values as evidenced by shift communication and documentation in the medical record.

· Incorporates in the nursing plan of care nursing interventions specific to the patient’s identified needs, measurable patient outcomes, discharge planning.

· Reviews and appropriately updates the nursing plan of care during assigned shift.

· Works with the patient and/or family in the development of the plan of care.

· Implements plan of care within established timeframe.

· Accurately orders appropriate tests via electronic health record (EHR).

· Requests consultation based on assessment data to assist in problem solving or facilitation of care as evidenced by random observation and documentation in the medical record.

· Administers medications including I.V. fluids according to policy and procedure.

· Administers and accounts for all controlled substances according to established policy and procedure.

· Accurately reviews physician’s orders and ensures implementation according to schedule.

· Documents nursing interventions and patient response to care at appropriate intervals during the shift.

· Provides basic patient education as outlined in the plan of care and documents teaching and outcomes in the medical record.

· Evaluates patient outcomes and modifies nursing interventions to meet changing patient needs including the reassessment of pain.

· Reports changes in the patient’s condition and/or adverse patient response to physician and other health care professionals.

· Performs fetal monitoring.

· Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.

· Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.

· Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.

· Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.

· Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand.

· Participates in planning changes and improvements.

· Performs OB specific procedures and assessments such as Sterile Vaginal Exams and nitrazine testing as directed by physician or applicable policy and procedure.

· Attends monthly staff meetings.

· Participates in hospital safety programs.

· Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.

· Assists in keeping the nursing unit clean and tidy.

· Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.

· Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies.

· Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

· Dexterity needed to operate equipment, telephone, intercom system and other tasks as required to meet patient care needs.

· Must be agile, able to move carefully around patients and equipment with ease.

· Job involves the potential for exposure to hazardous material such as contaminated body fluids.

Minimum Job Requirements

· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

· Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska
