Description

Ultrasound tech will perform procedures and examinations in hospital radiology departments under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers to produce ultrasound studies which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body. Ultrasound technologists receive and interpret requests and/or instructions for ultrasound procedures; gain the cooperation of patients; operate ultrasound equipment. This position requires knowledge of ultrasound protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; basic pathology.

Understands preps and time requirements for ultrasound exams.  Assists the radiology clerk in various clerical aspects.   Able to take call, work weekends, Holidays and evenings.


PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Participates in a variety of ultrasound procedures, the calculation of results, and the maintenance, review, and application of associated computer programs.

Assists with new procedures, protocols, guidelines, and techniques to improve patient care and customer satisfaction

Acquires adequate knowledge of the patients’ medical history to understand and relate to their illnesses, being responsive to those concerns, and the fears associated with the use of ultrasound

Recognizes emergency patient conditions and initiates life saving measures when appropriate

Deals with public, staff, and physicians in a courteous, professional manner at all times.

Alerts Centralized Scheduling when add-on exams are scheduled.

Consults with the Radiologist, physicians, and staff concerning radiology, ultrasound and quality management procedures, techniques, and protocols

Assists with making CD’S and telerading images to appropriate outside facility.  Knows how to operate scanner and has basic trouble shooting skills for Novarad equipment.

Helps with reception duties; answering phone, taking messages, paging overhead, and transferring calls as needed.

Assists with film control duties; pulling films, filing films, and checking films in and out of the facility.  

Assists in maintaining department records, reports, and files.

Assists in keepings office stocked with clerical supplies and radiology forms.

Applies knowledge of ultrasound physics and safety regulations 

Acquires pertinent information from patient charts, hospital records, and appointment history using hospital based computer programs

Works independent of others and in a timely manner

Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders as needed

Recognizes maintenance of equipment, confirms equipment malfunctions, and notifies radiology manager so appropriate steps can be made to restore equipment to proper service

Participates in departmental inspection conducted by various licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies functions as a team member and assists the other departments within Diagnostic Imaging when necessary, or when patient load permits

  • Performs all duties as assigned.
  • Wears I.D. badge in a visible location at all times on hospital property.
  • Protects I.D. and access badge and reports any issues or loss immediately to supervisor or to the Human Resource Department.

  • Attends all mandatory in service on a timely basis as scheduled.

  • Clinical Personnel: Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
  • Non-Clinical Personnel: Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often in an effort to control spreading of germs within the department and facility.
  • Adheres to isolation procedures at all times as applicable.

8. Adheres to the following environmental care standards.

  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
  • Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, Rapid Response Team
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e. personal protection, protection of personal and hospital property.

9. Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.

10. Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW 21 and Mid-Valley Hospital.

11. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.

Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Must have completed Ultrasound degree.

EXPERIENCE: Previous Ultrasound experience required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: ARDMS Registry Qualified

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work projects effectively and efficiently; independently as indicated.  Must have flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department.  Computer literacy is essential.  Good phone skills. Able to pull call, work weekends, holidays.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Standard Precautions.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

This person spends 95% of their time in temperature controlled office space.  The potential for exposure to biohazardous agents or exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potential infectious agents is minimal to none.  This position requires contact with patients and staff under a wide variety of circumstances. 

WAGE AND COMPENSATION


Signing Bonus $10,000

Wage  range 31.39 hr - 44.93 hr DOE
