POSITION SUMMARY

The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, and applicable safety and quality standards. Working under the direction of radiologists and other authorized medical staff, the technologist produces high-quality images that support the diagnosis and evaluation of injuries, disease processes, lesions, and other medical conditions. The role includes reviewing examination requests, preparing and positioning patients, operating ultrasound equipment, documenting relevant clinical information, and communicating findings and concerns to the appropriate clinical team. The technologist understands examination preparation and scheduling requirements, assists with departmental clerical functions as needed, and maintains the flexibility to work weekends and holidays based on department needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 · Performs a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, completes required measurements and calculations, and reviews images for technical quality and completeness before submission for interpretation.

· Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, ultrasound physics, equipment operation, and patient safety to each examination.

· Reviews orders, patient history, hospital records, and prior examinations to obtain clinically relevant information and confirm the appropriate procedure and preparation.

· Explains procedures, verifies patient identity, obtains cooperation, positions patients appropriately, and adapts care and communication to age, condition, and individual needs.

· Recognizes emergency conditions and initiates appropriate life-saving measures within the scope of training and hospital policy.

· Consults with radiologists, providers, and department staff regarding examinations, protocols, image quality, and workflow concerns.

· Supports the development and implementation of procedures, protocols, guidelines, and techniques that improve patient care, quality, and customer service.

· Maintain accurate records, reports, files, supplies, and inventory.

· Assists with scheduling, reception, telephone, messaging, and other clerical duties when needed.

· Participates in department inspections and activities conducted by licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.

· Works independently, manages priorities effectively, and supports other Diagnostic Imaging functions when workload and competency permit.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Reports for each scheduled shift on time, prepared, and in required attire with identification visible.

· Maintains schedule flexibility to meet department needs, obtains approval for overtime and time off, and complies with attendance and break policies.

· Attends required meetings and in-service education, reviews department communications, and completes training and recertification before established deadlines.

· Demonstrates professionalism, mutual respect, teamwork, inclusivity, and effective conflict resolution in all interactions.

· Provides courteous, responsive assistance to patients, families, providers, visitors, coworkers, and community partners.

· Protects confidential information and complies with HIPAA and all applicable privacy requirements.

· Follows infection prevention practices, standard precautions, isolation procedures, and requirements for personal protective equipment.

· Complies with safety, hazardous-material, emergency-code, security, and environmental-care procedures.

· Complies with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook, organizational policies, and the applicable UFCW21 collective bargaining agreement.

· Performs other duties as assigned and adapts communication and care to varied age-specific patient populations.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

· Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program is required.

· Previous professional ultrasound experience is preferred, but new graduates may be considered based on clinical experience.

· Must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This person spends 95% of their time in temperature controlled office space.  The potential for exposure to biohazardous agents or exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potential infectious agents is minimal to none.  This position requires contact with patients and staff under a wide variety of circumstances. 

WAGE AND COMPENSATION

Sign-on Bonus $10,000

Wage  range 38.90hr - 74.90hr DOE

This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of .076923 vacation hours per hour worked.  Accrued sick leave at an accrual of .04615 per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan.
