Dropout Recovery Learning Center Teacher

Eastpointe High School is seeking a mission-driven, relationship-focused Teacher to serve as a mentor and academic guide for students in our Dropout Recovery Learning Centers. This full-time role is designed for an educator who thrives on connection, resilience, and purpose—someone who understands that helping a student catch up academically also means helping them heal, grow, and believe in themselves again.

The ideal candidate will carry a caseload of students enrolled in our Dropout Recovery Program, providing both academic instruction and life mentorship. This is not a traditional classroom teaching role—it requires a special individual who can build trust quickly, remain flexible, and work with students who have experienced significant educational and personal setbacks.

If you are certified in Math, English, or Special Education, that is a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong, consistent, and authentic relationships with students who have previously disengaged from school.
  • Serve as a mentor and guide—supporting students not only in academic progress but also in the personal challenges that have led to them falling behind
  • Manage a caseload of dropout recovery students, developing individualized learning and support plans aligned with each student’s goals.
  • Facilitate learning through Edgenuity and other digital curriculum platforms in a lab-based, blended environment.
  • Offer academic remediation, one-on-one instruction, and small-group support across content areas as needed.
  • Monitor academic progress using Edgenuity, school assessments, and personal interactions; intervene quickly to keep students on track.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors, other teachers, and school leaders to support student retention, graduation, and post-secondary transitions.
  • Maintain accurate records of communication, attendance, interventions, and student outcomes.
  • Establish a culture of consistency, respect, and hope in the learning center.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training in trauma-informed education, mentoring, and dropout recovery strategies
  • Support Summer School operations during the month of June.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, ideally with at-risk, alternative, or non-traditional student populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with and motivate students facing significant academic and personal obstacles.
  • Comfort with online curriculum platforms such as Edgenuity
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and restorative approaches is highly desirable.
  • Passion for helping students regain hope and reach graduation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Arizona certification in Math, English, or Special Education.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
