SUMMARY: With supervision, directs the provision of health care services 24 hours per day, 6 days a week, for the students as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Essential Functions
1. Manages the day-to-day operations of the health center.
2. Supervises nursing staff and clinical nursing coordinator.
3. Provides consultative services to families, staff and community agencies.
4. Provides ongoing health care staff assessment/evaluation/development.
5. Coordinates professional development and education.
6. Engages in Quality Improvement activities to enhance performance of the Health Center.
7. Effectively communicates with all members of the school community.
8. Develops and manages departmental budget.
9. Assures all medical equipment that contributes to assessment and diagnosis of conditions is maintained correctly and routinely.
10. Assures safe staffing levels.
11. Acts as a consultant on school wide Infection Control concerns for students and staff.
Marginal Functions
1. Provides direct nursing care to students as needed.
2. Provides in-service training.
3. Performs additional duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS:
Performance: Must consistently demonstrate supervisory and clinical competence in all areas of performance within recognized professional standards.
Work Schedule: 35 daytime hours per week, Monday through Friday. Frequent flextime scheduling with evening and night assignments. This position has an annual twelve month schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Comprehensive knowledge of the nursing process and standards of practice.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of supervision and evaluation of health care personnel.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of growth and development, and routine and disabling pediatric conditions.
4. Licensed by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses.
5. Requires a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
6. Minimum of 5 years pediatric clinical experience required.
7. Minimum of 3-5 years of supervision experience required.
8. Registered Nurse active license required.
9. Ability to determine when to confer with the Chief Medical Director on non-routine problems.
10. Health Care Provider (CPR) Instruction certification through the Red Cross preferred.
After the first year in this position, the employee is required to have:
1. General knowledge of visual impairment and its effect on health status.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act regulations and services implications.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of MSB policies and procedures.
