Summary/Objective

The Station Manager in Training program is a fast-tracked development path designed to prepare high-potential leaders for managing a Kelley’s Market location. Through hands-on training and mentorship, you’ll gain the skills and experience needed to lead store operations, drive results, and grow your career within our organization. Upon completion of the program you will be responsible for the overall performance and daily operations of an assigned Kelley’s Market location. This position leads a team of Assistant Managers, Lead Sales/Food Associates, and Sales/Food Service Associates in delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining store profitability, and ensuring a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment. The Station Manager is expected to model company values, drive operational excellence, and foster a positive and engaging workplace culture. This position reports directly to the District Manager.


Essential Functions

1. Lead all aspects of store operations including scheduling, staffing, training, inventory control, sales performance, and customer service.

2. In partnership with HR, recruit, interview, and onboard new team members; ensure all required documentation and training are completed accurately and timely.

3. In partnership with HR, provide daily coaching, development, and performance feedback to all store employees; administer disciplinary actions and recognition as appropriate.

4. Monitor and manage labor, shrink, and expenses to achieve financial goals and meet KPIs.

5. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures including cash handling, food safety, alcohol/tobacco regulations, and loss prevention. Address any operational issues such as pricing discrepancies, customer concerns, equipment malfunctions, or policy violations.

6. Maintain operational excellence by ensuring shift change paperwork, deposits, timesheets, and vendor check-ins are completed accurately and submitted on time.

7. Oversee inventory levels, price changes, product placement, promotional execution, and regular audits. Remain knowledgeable of current pricing, in-store promotions, and product locations to assist customers and maximize sales.

8. Stock and front shelves, coolers, and displays to maintain a clean and organized sales floor at all times.

9. Serve as primary contact for customer escalations and ensure timely and professional resolution.

10. Monitor facility and equipment conditions; coordinate with vendors for maintenance and repairs.

11. Maintain store cleanliness, safety, and visual standards both inside and outside the location, including car wash (if applicable).

12. Participate in company initiatives, meetings, and training sessions as required.

13. Provide fast, friendly, and courteous service to all customers, ensuring a positive shopping experience.

14. Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently, handling transactions, refunds, and any register issues per company procedures.

15. Prepare and maintain fresh coffee and fountain beverages, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and stocked regularly.

16. Adhere to food handling and sanitation guidelines when working with food items.

17. Follow all safety and security procedures, including proper handling of cash, access to employee-only areas, and use of required personal protective equipment when applicable.

18. Any/all other duties as assigned.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment is consistent with that of a retail and convenience store setting. This position requires frequent lifting and movement of products and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds, with occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds. Regular use of hands and fingers is necessary for handling merchandise, operating point-of-sale systems, and adjusting equipment. The role also involves moderate levels of reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping throughout the shift.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, generally requiring 50 or more hours per week. Standard shifts are typically ten (10) hours in length and may fall on weekdays, weekends, or holidays, depending on business needs. Occasional evenings and weekend hours may be required to support store operations. Scheduling will be coordinated directly with the District Manager and may vary by location. As a Station Manager, you are expected to be on-call and available to support your business operations.


Compensation

The starting pay for this position is $55,000 per year paid bi-weekly. The final compensation may vary based on factors specific to the position, which can include the local labor market, as well as an individual’s education, relevant work experience, demonstrated skills, knowledge, and applicable certifications.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age. Where required by law, the individual may be required to obtain an Operator License to sell alcohol products in select markets.
  2. 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a convenience store, gas station, or retail environment; total store responsibility is preferred.
  3. 5+ years of experience in handling cash and completing shift reports or basic bookkeeping tasks.
  4. Proven ability to coach, train, and lead teams in a 24/7 high-volume environment.
  5. Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong math skills and the ability to handle cash and operate a point-of-sale (POS) system accurately.
  8. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  9. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally, and to stand for extended periods.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. ServSafe or Food Service Sanitation certification.
