Summary/Objective  

The Kitchen Porter is responsible for undertaking a range of kitchen duties in an efficient and effective manner. This  includes performing simple manual work in maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen. 

Positioning: The Porter is typically positioned in the back of the cafe performing essential duties. In downtime the  Porter moves to the front of house to assist in clearing dishes from server stations. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:  

Ownership:  

? Contributes positively to the team environment, working cohesively with the team to deliver exceptional  experiences to locals. 

? Washes pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, and traps; maintains neat appearance of working areas and  cleaning equipment storage areas. 

? Ensures store is prepped with tools needed to operate effectively and cleaning station is ready for table turns. 

Spend through Service:  

? Work closely with front of house teammates to ensure efficient bussing of tables to quickly turn tables. ? Fast, efficient and thorough cleaning of all cooking and eating tools so tables can be turned, and kitchen can  meet ticket times. 

Human Connection:  

? Build relationships and work cohesively with the back of house & front of house teams to ensure a seamless  experience for locals. 

? Communicate effectively across all levels in café to ensure responsibilities can be executed to standard.   

Premium Broad Product:  

? Follows all procedures and meets food hygiene regulations. 

? Receiving and unpacking all kitchen & food deliveries. 

Beautiful Spaces:  

? Sweeps and mops kitchen floors. 

? Cleans garbage cans and waste barrels. 

? Washes worktables, walls and refrigerators. 

? Operates dishwashing machine according to standard operating procedure.

? Performs general cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, tidying up stations,  emptying bins, checking and cleaning bathrooms. 

? Always maintains grooming & uniform guidelines. 

Measures of Success:  

? Good communication & working environment with Teammates – working together to service local efficiently  and effectively. 

? Maintain effective and efficient cleaning process in place for responsible areas. 

? Achieve operational goals of minimum check of $30 per person, average table turn of 30 minutes. 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:  

? Minimum of one-year porter experience in a high-volume cafe environment preferred. 

? DOH accreditation or Safe Serve Certified recommended. 

? Attention to detail. 

? A team player and have proven experience working on a team to achieve great performance. ? Can work in a high stress, fast paced work environment. 

? Can stand for extended periods and lift up to 50lbs. 

Work Environment: This position operates in a kitchen environment with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher,  slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and  noise. The position occasionally requires the team member to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and  pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability  to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
