JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Practice Manager, and for clinical issues only the Provider or CNO, the Pediatric Practice Clinician will provide direct and indirect patient care in an office setting in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Will communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.


STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Conducts/Transports patients to the exam room and prepares room and patient for examination.
  2. Takes vital signs and records vitals in the chart.
  3. Assists the Provider with care and treatment of patients.
  4. Obtains specimens via phlebotomy process and urine specimens by policy/procedure.
  5. Administers medications according to established policies and procedures as directed by the Physician or mid-level practitioner.
  6. Store/handle/transfer vaccines correctly according to facility policy/procedure and state, federal, and governing regulations.
  7. Administers treatments according to established policies and procedures; Labs, etc., as directed by Physician or mid-level practitioner.
  8. Participates in patient education involving the patient’s family when appropriate.
  9. Completes the nursing portion of the patient charts in an organized, neat, complete, and accurate manner.
  10. Identifies physical symptoms, physical changes and reports to the Physician.
  11. Observes and responds to behavioral and physiological changes due to medications.
  12. Performs pre-certifications for services requiring authorizations.
  13. Prepares patient for ordered procedures: lab, X-ray, surgery, treatment, etc., and complete forms or ordered procedures.
  14. Administers IV fluids according to center policy.
  15. Returns call to patients.
  16. Calls in prescriptions for patients as required.
  17. Reviews home care with patients.
  18. Communicates with other agencies, physicians, facilities, pharmacies when appropriate and as directed by the physician.
  19. Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and completion of Licensed Practical Nurse Training course or Certified Medical Assistant.

Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered current Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse license or current Certified Medical Assistant certification, and Basic Life Support CPR certification.

Work Experience: Six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
