Description

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean and Executive Director of Pre-College and Continuing Education Divisions. The Associate Dean and Executive Director will lead all aspects of an immersive, high-quality, comprehensive Saturday Academy for over 300 students ages 4 through 18 and oversee Bridge to Arts & Music (BAM), a program that provides tuition-free instrumental instruction, musical instruments, academic support and community for underserved children. In addition, the Associate Dean and Executive Director will lead Summer Programs and work with senior leadership at SFCM to provide a bold new vision and plan for the Continuing Education Division, and build community programming,  both on and off-campus, in partnership with organizations in the Bay Area. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean and Executive Director will be an experienced musician, educator, and administrator, who will oversee curriculum, faculty, admissions, and budget management.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and management in all aspects of Pre-College and Continuing Education, with a focus on revenue generation for all programs.
  • Identifies and recruits students for all programs.
  • Oversees the work of 2 full time Associate Directors, 1 full time Program Coordinator, 1 part time Program Associate, 10+ collegiate Teaching Artists, and 170+ part time faculty members
  • Manages Summer Programs in collaboration with members of the Collegiate Division.
  • Oversees the Bridge to Arts & Music Program through partnership with Third Baptist Church and Music Mission SF.
  • Collaborates with faculty to create and maintain programs, curriculum, and ensembles of the highest caliber.
  • In coordination with the Provost, recruits, oversees, and mentors all faculty in the Pre-College and Continuing Education Divisions.
  • Oversees budgetary planning and management. 
  • Works in collaboration with Marketing and Communications to produce print and digital collateral, press releases, and newsletters, as well as maintain website content.  
  • In conjunction with the Office of Advancement, identifies and pursues fundraising opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • demonstrated experience as a leader in the field of music with appropriate credentials or equivalent experience.  
  • The capacity to inspire the trust of the community and the ability to resolve challenges and difficulties diplomatically and efficiently.
  • Ability to inspire student and parent confidence in the institution and enjoy interactions with the broader community.
  • A minimum of 5 years of administrative experience in a leadership role.  
  • A record of successful teaching experience, and/or significant experience in an educational setting for pre-collegiate students.
  • Experience working in and collaborating with communities with a diverse range of backgrounds and socioeconomic status
  • A passion for innovation and the ability to articulate a vision.
  • Dynamic management and excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated organizational and financial skills.
  • Ability to develop and communicate policies and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral form.

Salary Description
$135,000 to $155,000 Annual, DOE
