Description

Martin/Martin, Inc. is looking for a Protective Design Services Lead to join our Structural Engineering Department, preferably in our headquarters office in Lakewood, Colorado. This technical expert will work with our leadership in both the federal and private sectors to leverage their expertise in Protective Design.    


The successful candidate will supervise services that include blast analysis and design, threat assessment, progressive collapse analysis, façade design, and physical security consulting. This person will play a key role in business development, working with firm principals, and will serve as project lead on the blast/security scope of work. The role will include supervision of staff; over time this person will grow a team that focuses on protective design. 


While many of our projects are located in the Rocky Mountain region, Martin/Martin’s national footprint provides opportunities to work on projects around the country, and sometimes internationally. Our office is located on the west side of Denver, allowing for quick access to both the city and the mountains. Our staff typically spends less time in traffic and more time with family and friends.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Develop BD strategy with the Federal, Aerospace, and Energy Market Sector Leaders (structural and civil) to pursue more protective design services on projects where Martin/Martin is the EOR for the structure or the site 
  • Coordinate and participate in proactive outreach to Federal, Public, and Private agencies and to contractors/consultants working for those agencies who need blast and protective design consulting services
  • Lead the protective design scope of services: primarily analysis, client consulting, studies, and reports. Advise on needs and review drawings for incorporating protective design into the construction drawings.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage project work plans, schedules, and design budgets.
  • Build lasting relationships with clients through project work and business development activities.
  • Attend industry events; make presentations
  • Train designated staff in protective design
  • Lead or assist with hiring engineers with protective design experience
  • Engineer of Record for projects within area of expertise

WORKING CONDITIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES

This position is primarily technical in nature and requires working inside and outside the office to complete a wide range of activities. The following abilities are required: 

  • Move inside or outside the office and on non-ADA accessible construction sites
  • Remain stationary for long periods of time
  • Repetitive movement on tasks such as using a keyboard or mouse
  • Carry, ascend, and descend a ladder
  • Identify color
  • Read, communicate, and document in English
  • Determine and exchange accurate information
  • Occasionally move or hold equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • 12 years minimum professional engineering experience
  • Extensive experience in analysis, design, and consulting related to blast effects, including facade hardening and risk assessment for federal and other governmental projects 
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in blast analysis software and design 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical subject matter to non-technical clients
  • Ability to delegate to and train others 
  • Effective management skills to handle multiple projects and clients
  • Demonstrates high level communication skills and strong ability to conduct/present technical classes

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in structural engineering
  • 16 years minimum structural engineering experience 
  • Effective public speaker leading presentations to clients and other engineers 
  • Business development experience
  • Site security consulting experience
  • Protective design risk assessment, analysis, and design for industrial owners
  • Federal security clearance and knowledge of federal security requirements, such as CMMC
  • Participating member of at least one professional and/or technical society

Salary Description
$130,000 - $155,000 per year
