Hours: 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.
Job Purpose:
Patrol the school campus to maintain order and security; respond to, evaluate and control various security situations to assure the safety of the school and the community.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol school campus to maintain order and security; protect students, personnel, equipment and property, by performing inspections on foot or in a vehicle of unsafe conditions, illegal acts and security situations on and around school properties
- Perform daily inspections, secure and unlock buildings as assigned or modified by the Operations Manager
- Maintain safety of school grounds and facilities, check for broken materials, liquid hazard or fires, prepare a variety of reports and other documentation related to work performed
- Contact School Officer in Charge and respond to emergency situations, prevent or control physical altercations, detain students and suspects in accordance with established procedures, administer first aid as needed and assist injured or ill persons
- Control traffic and provide security at school functions
- Communicate with school personnel and law, fire and safety personnel to receive and exchange information related to security, vandalism, crimes, investigations or safety regulations. Testify in disciplinary hearings as needed
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the community. Communicate with students and staff to provide and receive information regarding school activities
- Carry a school provided cell phone during working hours in order to respond to daily needs on campus as they arise
- Be self-motivated and work well with others as well as independently at times
- Continually strive to improve and enhance processes and systems
- Must adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Continually meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
A. Physical Environment:
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; hazardous chemicals; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Usually moderate noise level.
B. Physical Demands:
- Operates a motor vehicle on a daily basis.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, often lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet, and often climb and or balance up to 25 feet.
- Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to function well in a team/community environment, frequently interacting with students, teachers, co-workers, and administrators, displaying common courtesies and politeness.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and instruction manuals.
- Ability to write routine instructions, reports, logs, and descriptions of equipment problems and needs.
- Ability to speak effectively to describe and explain specific problems to co-workers, faculty, staff and contractors.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to order replacement parts and stock needed to perform daily tasks.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent technical school certification.
- Must hold and maintain a valid unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.
- OSHA Certification preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of security experience
