GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Director of Pfeiffer Library, the Library Services Associate is a public-facing position that supports the service and circulation operations in Pfeiffer Library. The Library Services Associate oversees library circulation, coordinates makerspace appointments, and works closely with student staff to ensure that processes are followed. The ability to anticipate needs, think creatively, work independently, and produce quality results with many interruptions is vital for this position. Some nights and weekends may be required.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Library Services Associate is primarily responsible for the following:
General
- Coordinates circulation and student-facing operations within Pfeiffer Library.
- Schedules and trains student desk workers.
- Coordinates makerspace appointments, specialty equipment requests, and room reservations.
- Ensures the accuracy of signage, displays, and bulletin boards.
- Ensures the functionality of the facility and equipment through the regular submission of help desk and facilities support tickets.
- Maintains the backstock of operational supplies for the library and makerspace and reports purchasing requests to the Library Director.
Circulation
- Oversees daily library lending and cargo processing, including local and consortium lending requests, InterLibrary Loan processing, and small equipment lending.
- Assists in the assessment of library services, including data collection and curation for library reporting.
- Generates mandatory circulation reports and audits required by and reported to library consortia and ensures they are completed in a timely manner.
- Facilitates collection audits, receives new print materials after cataloging and/or via mail for processing, and manages faculty reserve materials.
- Coordinates special library projects as assigned by the Director.
In addition to the specific responsibilities above, the Library Services Associate will:
- Serve as back-up support to the library’s proctoring services.
- Represent Pfeiffer Library at various institutional, consortia, and professional events as appropriate to the job responsibilities.
- Contribute to the overall goals of the Pfeiffer Library and Tiffin University.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES FOR THE JOB
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in fields related to education, liberal arts, library science, or similar background is preferred. Associate’s Degree with credits towards a bachelor’s will be considered with library experience.
Experience:
- Scheduling and office experience required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic technology troubleshooting skills required.
- Familiarity with library systems and processes, even as a student worker, is preferred.
Other:
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn new skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to the ever-changing needs of students are required.
