Position Summary

Valley Healthcare System is seeking a passionate and experienced Crisis Mental Health Clinician to join our Mental Health Integration Program, a grant funded collaborative initiative with the City of Columbus Fire Department and Police Department. This program aims to provide on-scene crisis intervention, mental health assessments, and de-escalation services to individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies. The clinician will work alongside first responders to ensure individuals in crisis receive appropriate mental health care and community support.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to behavioral health crisis calls in the Columbus community alongside police officers, EMTs, and firefighters.
  • Conduct on-site mental health assessments to determine appropriate care interventions.
  • Provide crisis de-escalation, safety planning, and short-term case management.
  • Assist in connecting individuals to appropriate mental health, substance use treatment, and social services; 1013 if necessary.       
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency medical services to divert individuals from unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and referrals.
  • Participate in team debriefings, training sessions, and case consultations.
  • Advocate for individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring they receive compassionate and trauma-informed care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Wednesday – Saturday 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Must hold a current LCSW, LPC, LMHC, or equivalent state licensure
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in crisis intervention, emergency psychiatric services, or community mental health settings.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and mental health crisis intervention models.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and collaborate effectively with emergency responders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the community as needed.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working in co-response teams or with law enforcement, fire departments, or emergency medical services.
  • Familiarity with Columbus-area mental health and social service resources.
  • Training in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) models, Motivational Interviewing, or Mental Health First Aid.

  • Secure workstations and patient records per facility policy and HIPAA guidelines

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Duties involve regular movement (walking, standing, bending, lifting) and occasional high-stress situations
  • Position includes both administrative and clinical responsibilities in school and clinic settings
  • May require working outside of standard hours based on program and patient needs
