PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT MANAGER

Reports To: Head of Account Services


Position Summary:  Create and build client relationships while sponsoring interaction to obtain projects. Developing and facilitating the proposal process for specific clients/sponsors including budget and pricing development, proposal writing, contract negotiations, and client presentations. 


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Make sales contacts, research customer needs and develop application of products and services in an effective manner
  • Determine market strategies & goals for each product and service 
  • Research and develop lists of potential customers 
  • Perform market research to determine customer needs & provide information to staff 
  • Evaluate product & service marketability in terms of customers’ technical & manufacturing needs 
  • Follow up on sales leads and making cold calls on potential customers 
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments that effect target markets 
  • Establish & maintain industry contacts that lead to sales 
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of activities, industry trends & government regulations
  • Contact partners through, but not limited to, phone calls, email, mailings, fax and seminars to communicate opportunities to extend initiatives with the company. 
  • Match programs to customer requirements, and close contracts for defined programs. 
  • Collaborate with others to facilitate new programs, messages, campaigns, and offerings. 
  • Oversee developing a budget and price estimate using standard models. 
  • Assist in developing project plans, defining roles and responsibilities and the scope of work for each project with input from sponsors, project leaders, principal investigators, and functional groups. 
  • Draft the narrative that ties the project components together and package and assist in presenting the proposal to the sponsoring agency. 
  • Communicate back to internal groups the outcome of the negotiations/proposals focusing on conveying the expectations set forth for each group i.e. clear details, critical timeframes, and expectations. 
  • Track and report on the status of all proposal components. 
  • Participate in site visits. 
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean, orderly work areas
  • Develop and enhance current procedures to support production and quality goals
  • Research new equipment and processes to further enhance process and product capabilities (quality and production goals)
  • Disposition of non-conforming product
  • Investigate root cause and implement preventive/corrective actions
  • Follow all corporate and quality policies
  • Work to meet or exceed established goals; individual, departmental and company.
  • Assist with training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Must be highly motivated and able to work well individually and in a team environment
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure environment and to meet stringent deadlines for completing tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate a personal computer
  • Ability to prioritize appropriately

  

Desired Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

Education and Experience:

  • 5 years of related work experience and a high school diploma or GED. A 2 year degree is desired.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week, including weekends, holidays and varying shifts if necessary.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 20lbs
  • Normal motor skills and eye-hand coordination
  • Long periods of viewing data on a computer screen and/or on paper are a necessity
  • Some travel to support strategic accounts may be necessary
