Job Summary
The Custodian fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and
organized environment. The Custodian assists the principal, faculty, and staff by ensuring that
the school is well-maintained for its educational purposes. The Custodian has decision-making
responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is
hired and evaluated by the principal.
Ministerial Character
The pastor and principal are the visible foundation of the school, which the bishop has entrusted
to them. Together with the pastor, the principal makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in
the school. To fulfill this mission, the principal employs suitable collaborators. The
principal shares with them Christ’s mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed in the school help to extend the ministry of the pastor and the principal in
particular ways, as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is
closely connected to and assists the pastor and the principal in the performance of their ministry
and thereby engages in the ministry for the Church.
Job Requirements
Position may require a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends, and some
holidays, ability to report to work on time, appropriately dressed, must be able to understand a
follow verbal and written instructions. They will be required to read labels and use cleaning
chemicals safely, must follow all safety protocols, including chemical disposal, wearing safety
gear, using appropriate tools for each task, and must be able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
Position requires constant movement to include walking, bending, and standing. Must have the
ability to clean up blood, vomit, excrement, and other bodily fluids with appropriate health
precautions. Facilities are required to assist with safety and emergencies and to deal
with the public.
All employees must maintain a current EIM certification.
Essential Duties:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the
- school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school
- and Diocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Cleans classrooms, workrooms, kitchens, hallways, and carpeted areas daily
- Cleans and disinfects bathrooms daily and replenishes supplies
- Removes trash from classrooms, offices, and eating areas daily
- Conducts weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning as required
- Assists with the setup and clean-up for meetings and special events
- Periodically disinfects door handles, telephones, switch plates, and trash receptacles
- Maintains exterior entrances and walkways
- Applies universal precautions in cleaning practices
- Comply with MSDS regulations
- Maintains the security of issued keys, secures buildings, turns off lights, and sets
- thermostats
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
- Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff
- Collaborate with others to enhance the work environment
- Conducts emergency cleanups and repairs as needed
- Conducts periodic maintenance activities and minor repairs
- Communicates maintenance and repair issues to the principal
Skills:
Working knowledge of cleaning practices

Able to work alone or with others and interact with the public
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver’s license
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period
