The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference   in the lives of our clients.

For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has   provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for   families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a   supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and   residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for   3-5 year olds. 

Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified   National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

                                                                        JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Substance Use Counselor

LOCATION: Addiction Treatment Services

Hours:       35 hrs. per week

Union:      Union position  

  • The counselor provides assessment and   treatment as well as education and training to clients and their families. The appropriate candidate has   experience working with clients with co-occurring mental illness. 
  • Specifically, the substance use counselor will be responsible for:
  • Conducting substance use assessments and comprehensive psychosocial evaluations.
  • Meeting with clients for ongoing individual counseling 
  • Leading group counseling sessions
  • Providing crisis intervention as needed.
  • Providing psychoeducation to clients and their   family members
  • Maintain case records in EHR to ensure   continued treatment planning, referrals, and follow up
  • Providing referrals to other providers within   the agency and outside agencies as needed and monitoring clients’ compliance   with referral.
  • Coordinating client care with other behavioral   health care providers including psychiatrists, behavioral health therapists, case managers and primary and specialty care providers.
  • Other responsibilities as needed. 


Reports to:  Program Director

Requirements

        

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Bilingual   Spanish Preferred
  • CASAC-T, CASAC License or LM/CSW or LMHC
  • 1-4   years of experience
  • Must be comfortable utilizing telemedicine platforms and video conferencing systems

Salary Description
$55,000 to $65,000
