Who We Are
Golden Queen Mining Co., LLC (the “Company”) operates a gold and silver, open pit, heap leach operation on its Soledad Mountain property, located just outside the town of Mojave in Kern County in southern California. The Project uses conventional open pit mining methods and the cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes to recover gold and silver from crushed, agglomerated ore.

Who You Are
With a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mine Engineering, and 5 to 10 years of experience in heap leaching and gold recovery circuits, you bring a strong technical foundation to the role. You possess advanced computer skills and have hands-on experience in operating and maintaining a fire and solution assay laboratory, working with a range of laboratory equipment. Your expertise in metallurgical procedures and quality control ensures the highest standards, while your excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills allow you to collaborate effectively. Your professional presence and commitment to high work standards make you an asset to any team.
This is a safety sensitive position. As the Chief Metallurgist you report to the Plant Manager.
What You Do
- Manage daily operations of the assay laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant, and refinery.
- Directly supervise assay laboratory, Merrill-Crowe, and metallurgical technicians.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to direct reports.
- Oversee quality assurance and quality control processes for reliable and reproducible results.
- Prepare technical reports interpreting laboratory data, with recommendations and conclusions.
- Ensure compliance with approvals, permits, and regulatory requirements for laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant, refinery operations, and hazardous substances management.
- Ensure safe operations with regular safety training and meetings to achieve zero incidents.
- Provide technical support to the crushing plant operations.
- Collaborate with ore control and site geology teams to identify material characteristics and develop blending strategies.
- Keep updated on technical advancements and introduce new procedures as applicable.
- Assist in setting production targets and process department budgeting.
- Contribute to monthly management reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mine Engineering is required.
- An advanced degree is preferred; however, equivalent experience with proven technical leadership may be considered.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in heap leaching and gold recovery circuits.
- Strong computer skills are essential.
- Experience in operating and maintaining a fire and solution assay laboratory, including a variety of laboratory equipment.
- Expertise in metallurgical procedures and quality control practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
- High standards of work and a professional demeanor.
