The Greater Burlington YMCA is looking for a Head Swim Coach to develop, lead, and enhance Dynamo Swim Team, our youth competitive swim program. This role focuses on building strong relationships with swimmers, their families and other coaches. Dynamo Swim Team works from a Whole Child model of development and values the building of a lifelong love of sport, exercise, nutrition, and mental health in our swimmers. The Head Coach will be responsible for leading the development of the competitive program for swimmers aged 5-18 and ranging from beginning on swim team to competing at the YMCA Nationals level.
Schedule and Location: This position works at our 298 College Street Burlington, VT facility September-May Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays 3:30-7:30 with weekends added during the peak season which is December to March. In addition to on-deck coaching hours, 15–20 hours per week of administrative work are required during the season. This time can be a mix of in-person and remote work.

What You’ll Do
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate swim team staff in collaboration with the Director of Aquatics, ensuring alignment with budget and performance expectations.
- Lead monthly coaches’ meetings and provide ongoing training and professional development.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive seasonal training plan, including daily workouts customized for individual swimmer needs and coordinated practice schedules for swimmers and coaches.
- Plan and manage all swim meets, including logistics, athlete entries, communication, and coordination with staff and families.
- Establish and communicate swimmer participation guidelines before the start of each season.
- Lead parent engagement efforts by maintaining a parent group, hosting regular meetings, and ensuring timely communication with families and the Director of Aquatics.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the swim team budget and fee schedule within approved guidelines, ensuring fiscal integrity.
- Promote a culture of belonging by fostering an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates the diversity of all swimmers, families, and staff.
- Collaborate with the Director of Aquatics and Director of Communications to create and implement a marketing plan promoting the swim team program to the broader community.
- Prepare an end-of-season summary report incorporating feedback from assistant coaches, swimmers, and families.
- Support special events that promote the Y’s aquatic and fitness programs.
- Model and promote the YMCA’s mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, working collaboratively with all YMCA staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
