Position Overview
St. Joseph Catholic School, a vibrant and faith-filled learning community committed to academic excellence and spiritual formation, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Upper Elementary Teacher. The ideal candidate is a mission-driven educator who inspires a love of learning, creates a structured and joyful classroom environment, and nurtures the intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth of each student.
Ministerial Character
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals lead our schools in making Christ’s mission present and enduring throughout our learning environments.
Employees in Catholic schools serve as collaborators in this mission. As such, this position is not just instructional but ministerial in nature. The teacher assists school leadership in the Church’s educational ministry, serving as a witness to faith and a partner in formation.
Essential Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction in core content areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Religion), aligned with diocesan and state standards.
- Integrate Catholic values into daily instruction and classroom culture.
- Create a respectful, supportive, and orderly classroom environment that promotes curiosity, responsibility, and mutual care.
- Use a variety of assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and progress reports.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and classroom updates.
- Partner with parents as active participants in their child’s education.
- Collaborate with colleagues and specialists to support student learning and school-wide goals.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and liturgical celebrations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification or willingness to obtain.
- Prior experience in elementary education or Catholic school settings preferred.
- Practicing Catholic preferred; commitment to the mission of Catholic education is essential.
- Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills.
- Team-oriented, reflective, and mission-aligned professional mindset.
- Proficiency with instructional technology (e.g., Google Classroom, LMS platforms).
