Description

JOB SUMMARY

Acts as preop nurse, circulating nurse, recovery nurse in the ASC depending on daily assignment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides appropriate nursing care to the perioperative patient across the continuum of operative care utilizing the nursing process and ASC policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes nursing assessment skills to obtain a pertinent medical history from the patient/family and other members of the care team.
  • Documents care according to ASC and other governing body standards as well as the plan of care.
  • Recognizes health threatening changes in vital signs, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies, and responds appropriately including documentation and notification of physician of record.
  • Detects early signs and symptoms of intra-operative/post-operative complications and reports observations promptly to physician of record and documents accordingly.
  • Carries out physician orders accurately and questions unclear orders.
  • Administers medications and parenteral therapy according to ASC Nursing policies.
  • Anticipates needs of the surgical team and has adequate supplies and equipment available and in working condition.
  • Initiates and carries out appropriate emergency procedures with proper documentation.
  • Initiates nurse-physician communication as appropriate
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and quiet environment for patients as well as other personnel.
  • Provides pre-operative, post-operative teaching to patient, family / significant other with proper documentation.
  • Participates in reviewing and revising quality assurance criteria and/or standards of care.
  • Serves as a preceptor in orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in maintenance, care, and cleanliness of supplies / equipment. Cost effectively maintains adequate supplies and equipment in appropriate working condition with proper documentation.
  • Reports damaged supply and equipment to Supervisor.
  • Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
  • Follows all biohazard waste disposal policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must hold and maintain current RN license in the State of Florida.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in OR setting preferred.
  • Must hold and maintain current CPR certification; ACLS and PALS preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lifts (maximum of 50 plus pounds) when necessary.
  • Standing/Walking: Constantly; activity exists up to 90% of the time
  • Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
  • Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time during an 8-hour workday.
  • Ability to push patient stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Physically able to work long hours.
