GENERAL SUMMARY

The Peri-Operative Aide provides support service for the perioperative patient. This includes safe and efficient flow of patient care, cleaning and disinfecting of surgical surfaces and equipment along with positioning of devices. Duties are performed by following the established methods and procedures of the facility.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists Pre-op and PACU staff with admission duties of patients.
  • Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments, according to instructions.
  • Maintains supply of fluids, such as saline and glucose for use during operation.
  • Washes and sterilizes equipment. Understands how to operate all the sterilizers in the facility and understands the principals behind each.
  • Aids the surgical team with donning of gowns and gloves.
  • Assists team members to place and position patient on table. Assists with lifting and transporting patients.
  • Cleans operating room and assists with hazardous material waste disposal.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • BLS certification required.
  • Graduate of a surgery tech program preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to use basic math.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
