The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time Technology Teacher to join our educational community. This position will serve students in grades K-8, fostering digital literacy, computational thinking, and engineering skills in a faith-centered learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Instruction
- Teach beginning coding concepts using ScratchJr and other age-appropriate programming platforms
- Provide typing instruction to develop keyboarding skills and digital fluency
- Facilitate hands-on engineering activities and STEM projects aligned with grade-level standards
- Integrate technology skills across subject areas to support interdisciplinary learning
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
Classroom Management & Environment
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging technology learning environment
- Manage classroom technology resources including computers, Keva planks, robotics kits, and engineering materials
- Establish clear expectations for responsible technology use and digital citizenship
- Support students in developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate technology into core curriculum
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and assessment data
- Participate in professional development opportunities and faculty meetings
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress
- Support the Catholic mission and values of the Diocese schools
Religious Qualifications:
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Valid California teaching credential or ability to obtain substitute/emergency credential
- Experience working with elementary and middle school students (K-8)
- Proficiency in ScratchJr programming platform and age-appropriate coding tools
- Strong keyboarding and typing instruction skills
- Basic understanding of engineering design process and hands-on STEM activities
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience in K-8 educational settings
- Familiarity with Catholic school environment and mission
- Experience with additional programming platforms (Scratch, Code.org, etc.)
- Knowledge of robotics, 3D printing, or maker space technologies
- Understanding of digital citizenship and internet safety principles
- Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish)
Physical Requirements:
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
