At Caldera, we believe in the power of creativity. Our mission is to inspire and support youth from underserved rural and urban communities by awakening the potential of their creative voice. We do this through a unique fusion of art, environment and mentorship. Our Youth Program provides students from Portland and Central Oregon with long-term relationships with caring adults, which nurtures individual creativity, beginning in sixth grade and continuing into young adulthood.
Caldera has a $4M budget, a 18-member board, 15 full-time year-round employees, and a range of seasonally contracted artists and staff. Its administrative office is in Portland, Oregon, and its Arts Center is located outside of Sisters in Central Oregon.
Job Title: Youth Transportation Driver – Electric Vehicles (Summer Camp)
Salary: $24/hr

- July 7, July 20, August 1, and August 12: Departure from Portland 6:45 am / Return 5:30 pm
- July 16, July 28, August 8, and August 19: Departure from Portland 7:00 am / Return 4:30 pm
Position Summary:
We are seeking a responsible, safety-conscious, and youth-friendly driver to transport teens to and from our summer camp using electric vehicles (EVs). This role is essential in ensuring a positive, reliable, and environmentally responsible start and end to each camper's day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate an electric 15-passenger van on scheduled routes to pick up and drop off youth at designated locations.
- Maintain timely and consistent transportation schedules.
- Supervise youth while in transit, ensuring safety, respectful behavior, and adherence to camp transportation rules.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure EV safety and cleanliness.
- Report any issues, accidents, or incidents promptly to camp leadership.
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, and camp staff.
- Assist youth with seatbelts, loading/unloading, or any special needs during transport.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience driving vans or passenger vehicles preferred.
- Experience working with children or teens is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with electric vehicles or willingness to learn basic EV operations.
- Strong commitment to safety, punctuality, and youth well-being.
- Ability to pass background checks, including child abuse clearances and drug screening (as required by state/local laws).
- Ability to drive and be in a vehicle for up to 4 consecutive hours and 9 hours per day
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
- Capable of assisting youth with entering and exiting the vehicle safely.
- Able to lift or carry light items (e.g., backpacks, small equipment) as needed.
