Social Services Intern (Fall 2025)
Description

The Tahirih Justice Center is seeking a Social Services Intern in our Atlanta office to assist with our work to empower immigrant survivors of gender-based violence seeking justice, safety and stability. This role will require a high degree of emotional intelligence and passion for social justice to provide survivors with holistic, client-centered support. The selected intern will learn trauma-informed case management concepts and survivor-centered advocacy in a national nonprofit setting. The Social Services Intern will be a member of our Social Services Department and will be provided with ongoing supervision and mentorship by the Atlanta team.


Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify free or low-cost resources for service referrals such as medical and mental health, housing, financial assistance and public benefits, transportation, employment advocacy and other areas of assistance, to support the needs of our clients
  • Create know-your-rights one-pagers and infographics on information and policies relevant to the needs of our clients
  • Research and help document social services best practices to improve programmatic policies and procedures, such as assisting with conducting client surveys, as needed
  • Assist with case management tasks such as conducting needs assessments, supporting individual client case plans, providing safety planning and supportive counseling, connecting clients with appropriate resources and referrals, and writing advocacy letters to help clients gain access to services, as needed and applicable
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of all activities with clients in an organizational database


Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Preferred advanced fluency in written and oral Spanish
  • Previous experience working with survivors of trauma
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as creativity and perseverance in identifying solutions
  • Familiarity with issues impacting immigrant communities in Georgia

Compensation: Tahirih pays interns a $5000 stipend for completing 300 hours over the course of the semester (prorated to the number of hours completed). Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. This position requires a time commitment between 10-20 hours per week.
