BIM (BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING) SPECIALIST/MANAGER
Overview

The BIM position plays a key role in supporting the digital design and documentation process across architectural and interior design projects. This position is responsible for creating, managing, and coordinating Building Information Models in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and firm protocols. The BIM position works closely with design teams to implement efficient BIM workflows, ensure model integrity, and facilitate collaboration among project stakeholders.
This role reports within the technology department and contributes to firm-wide BIM strategies, technology adoption, and quality control initiatives. The BIM positions assists in enforcing project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), supports model audits, and provides technical expertise to resolve modeling challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain accurate BIM models using Autodesk platforms.
- Support multidisciplinary coordination, clash detection, and model federation.
- Ensure compliance with BIM standards, project requirements, and firm templates.
- Assist project teams with model setup, file management, and content creation.
- Collaborate with the BIM Manager on the implementation of firm-wide BIM initiatives.
- Troubleshoot modeling issues and provide technical support and training to project teams.
- Participate in quality control reviews and maintain documentation of BIM processes.
Capabilities
1. Technical Proficiency
- Revit Expertise: Advanced skills in Autodesk Revit for modeling, detailing, and documentation.
- Model Coordination: Ability to manage federated models, conduct clash detection, and support cross-disciplinary coordination.
- Content Creation: Skilled in developing custom Revit families and parametric components.
- Workflow Automation: Familiarity with visual scripting tools like Dynamo or Grasshopper to automate repetitive tasks.
- File Management: Experience with BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms for model sharing and version control.
2. Standards and Quality Control
- BIM Execution Plan (BEP) Adherence: Ability to follow and implement project-specific BEPs and industry standards (e.g., ISO 19650, AIA LOD).
- Template & Library Management: Ensure consistently use firm-approved templates, annotations, and families.
- Model Auditing: Conduct model health checks to identify and correct performance or compliance issues.
3. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve modeling, coordination, or documentation problems efficiently.
- Detail Orientation: Maintain high standards for accuracy, precision, and graphical clarity in models and drawings.
- Data Interpretation: Ability to interpret and manipulate model data for schedules, quantities, or analytics.
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Team Support: Work closely with architects, interior designers, and consultants to support digital workflows and ensure model alignment.
- Training & Mentorship: Support junior staff with BIM tools, processes, and troubleshooting.
- Clear Documentation: Communicate technical decisions and processes effectively through written and visual documentation.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5 -7 + years of experience in a BIM-related role within the architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry.
- Proven experience using Revit for production and coordination on real-world projects.
- Experience participating in multi-disciplinary BIM coordination meetings or clash detection processes.
- Proficiency in Revit and other BIM authoring tools (BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud, Dynamo (visual scripting)
- Understanding of open BIM principles and file formats such as IFC, BIM workflows, and project lifecycle integration.
- Solid understanding of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), LOD (Level of Development) specifications, and industry BIM standards (e.g., ISO 19650, AIA BIM Protocols).
- Ability to interpret and apply client BIM requirements and project deliverables.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
