As a CMA, you will be responsible for providing support to the physicians and managers regarding patient care. Responsible for all facets of hands-on medical assisting including working-up patients, taking patient’s vitals, processing lab specimens, maximizing physician productivity and efficiency, patient recalls, instrument cleaning, and patient restroom & workstation stocking.

  • Practice Administrator
  • Assistant Practice Administrator


Skills & Qualifications:

  •  Requires proficiency in taking patient’s vitals, venipuncture, injections, and all other aspects of medical assisting.
  •  Requires proficiency in working with a PC, the Internet, and MS Windows.
  •  Knowledge of current CPT & ICD-9 coding.
  •  Knowledge of chart documentation requirements.
  •  Knowledge of the current Medicare Compliance, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
  •  Requires a high degree of organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with patients using interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all staff, managers and physicians.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

As a Workup Certified Medical Assistant, you’ll support both clinical and administrative tasks to keep our practice running smoothly. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Working-up patients including taking patient vitals and conducting laboratory testing.
  • Responsible for obtaining appropriate authorizations from patients prior to providing services requiring such authorizations such as Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notices for routine and/or non-covered services.
  • Responsible for cleaning clinical areas and medical instruments in accordance with practice, manufacturer, and OSHA protocol.
  • Responsible for cleaning and upkeep of work areas including work-up stations and desks.
  • Responsible for protecting patient confidentiality in accordance with practice protocol and HIPAA.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

 SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

This position requires proficiency in general medical assisting functions. Also required are general computer skills, a working knowledge of chart documentation requirements, a working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding, and working knowledge of Medicare Compliance, OSHA and HIPAA. 


 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Combination of sitting, standing, bending, light lifting and walking.
  • Requires a full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
  • Requires the ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Occasional stress from varying demands.
  • Requires a substantial amount of standing and walking.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Restriction of personal phone calls to break and lunch periods.
  • Overtime authorized by supervisor.
  • Attendance at monthly back office staff meeting.
  • Attendance at monthly all staff meeting.
  • Attendance training sessions.
  • Adherence to the back-office uniform policy.
  • Adherence to practice policies, procedures and protocol.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma (or GED) required.
  • Must have current medical assistant certification or registration and have ability to maintain certification or registration.
