PRIMARY PURPOSE –
The Safety Specialist is responsible for fostering a safe and compliant work environment by guiding safety initiatives, ensuring the well-being of our team members, overseeing compliance, and developing a safety culture. The Safety Specialist role is primarily focused on administrative tasks, eventually growing into a true specialist role with internally-supported certifications and growth opportunities.
WORK SCHEDULE –
Expectation: Exempt on-site position, requires eight plus hours a day, multi-state travel required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –
- Provide full-time administrative support of all Branch Safety programs and policies.
- Track safety metrics and create Monthly Branch Safety Scorecard.
- Coordinate and oversee safety training and certifications.
- Manage HR & Safety reporting forms (accidents, incidents, impairment suspicion).
- Oversee monthly replenishment cost of Cintas services.
- Ensure proper inventory, documentation, and maintenance of PPE, eyewash stations, and fire extinguishers.
- Oversee daily vehicle and lift truck inspections for compliance.
- Lead A3 problem-solving and post-incident reviews.
- Create and publish monthly safety bulletin.
- Facilitate company-wide cadence for Safety, including monthly virtual town halls and safety meetings.
- Assist with walkthroughs, ensuring OSHA compliance.
- Facilitate emergency preparedness plans.
- Promote a positive safety culture through recognition and messaging.
- Assist with Investigations of property damage, injuries, and near misses.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation and adherence to established safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in coordinating regular safety audits and inspections, and help follow up on corrective actions for identified hazards.
- Help organize and deliver safety training sessions and provide ongoing support to reinforce safety awareness among employees.
- Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses by gathering information and supporting root cause analysis.
- Maintain safety documentation, including records, reports, and compliance logs, to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with management and frontline employees to help sustain and reinforce a strong safety culture across all departments.
- Monitor and report on safety metrics and trends, supporting continuous improvement efforts based on data insights.
- Assist in coordinating emergency preparedness activities, including drills and communication of response procedures.
- Ensure safety plans for projects are properly documented and align with existing safety standards.
- Support compliance efforts during inspections and audits by maintaining organized and up-to-date safety materials.
- Stay informed on current safety regulations and best practices to provide accurate and timely support to the team.
- Work with HR to help manage modified duty and return-to-work processes for employees with work-related injuries.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety reference materials, ensuring consistency and accessibility.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement or Kaizen events by contributing safety-related insights and follow-up actions.
- Track progress and completion of corrective actions from audits and incident investigations to ensure follow-through.
- Help promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and recognize proactive safety behaviors across teams.
- Assist in the deployment and support of digital tools related to safety reporting, inspections, and incident tracking.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE –
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and suggest corrective actions.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs. (Preferred, not required)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to travel to all branch locations/various project sites as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong interest in occupational health and safety management.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions.
- Basic knowledge of safety regulations preferred but not required.
- Eagerness to learn and develop safety coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
