Description
The Senior Accountant, with the support of the Chief Financial Officer, must oversee all day-to-day Housing finance operations and maintain accurate and timely financial information. Maintains, in all aspects, the Housing properties’ general and subsidiary ledgers. Acts as lead in audits, participate in budget and Performance Quality Performance process, and creates/implements policies and procedures while ensuring internal controls are followed. Supervises the Accounting Associate.
General Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversees the Housing day-to-day finance operations, reviews documents for proper account coding, maintains timely and accurate financial records for all general and subsidiary ledgers, and handles month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Transacts and/or oversees data and journal entries covering A/P, A/R, Payroll; tracks agency income/expenditures to ensure timely remittances to vendors, records agency income, expenses, assets, and liabilities as well as other related financial activities.
- Reconciles bank statements and all balance sheet accounts for Housing ministries.
- Prepares internal and external financial reports for Housing; creates and communicates financial reporting analyses and assessments to Management and Board of Directors.
- Creates preliminary budgets with Resurrection Property Management and works with CFO to edit and finalize; prepares financial projections based on trends, analyzes variances to budget and prior year; and performs budget conversion into financial software.
- Takes the lead in property management acquisitions; sets up new properties in housing software, uploads historical data, facilitates transition with previous management company, and works directly with financial institution for account set up.
- Ability to supervise, develop, and motivate direct reports.
- Creates/Maintains written procedures, reviews annually, updates when policies or processes change, and ensures compliance.
- Becomes subject matter expert on financial software to make suggestions for streamlining and improving accounting processes.
- Works closely with Resurrection Property Management (RPM); assists with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reports, special requests, and various inquiries; ensures internal controls are followed and remains in financial compliance per HUD contract; communicates process changes to CFO beforehand.
- Acts as lead accountant in annual and interim financial audits as well as other internal or external audits e.g., HUD (gathering all data and timely submission, and communicating discrepancies with CFO, ensuring compliance).
- Other duties and projects assigned.
Requirements
- Should have a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field and experience with payroll-related processes is required. An advanced degree or CPA or related experience is a plus.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial analysis, and financial reporting. Must have experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Financial Statement preparation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Quick books and Housing Accounting software experience is preferred.
- Have flexibility with working hours and be available in the evening and weekends, as needed.
- Excellent communication in English both verbally and written.
