We are Jenkins Electric, an electro-mechanical repair company based in Charlotte, NC, since 1907. Jenkins has focused on finding solutions and fostering excellence in electro-mechanical repair and testing. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Hydro Field Service Technician.
This role involves disassembling and cleaning generators, removing rotor poles, and doing on-site installs, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on hydroelectric equipment. We're looking for someone with strong technical skills who can travel to different customer locations. Most of our work is at off-site power plants.
Here's what the Hydro Field Service Technician will be doing:
- Able to travel and stay near the job site (we provide lodging).
- Complete mechanical and electrical inspections, maintenance, and repairs on hydroelectric turbines, generators, and related systems.
- Help with disassembling, installing, aligning, cleaning, and commissioning hydro units at customer sites.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and come up with quick solutions.
- Read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Communicate with customers about the job, repairs, and what we recommend.
- Fill out service reports, documentation, and follow up on tasks.
- Follow safety rules to keep the workplace safe and meet industry standards.

Education and Skills
- High school diploma (or something equivalent)
- Good with your hands (mechanical aptitude)
- Can work on your own
- Great at solving problems and talking to customers
- Knows some programming languages (bonus points!)
- Experience with machine shops, CNC machines, and manufacturing is a plus
- Experience with embedded systems and real-time operating systems is a plus
Work Environment
- No problem with working in tight spots and up high. Can handle loud noises. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable standing, bending, and kneeling for a while. Can take direction from the field supervisor. Good with your hands to work with materials and tools.

- Safety knowledge in manufacturing or industrial settings is a must.
