Group Fitness Instructor
Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Group fitness instructors are independent contractors responsible for planning and instructing a variety of fitness classes geared towards people of all ages.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.

Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.

Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.

Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

Performs related duties as required.

Establish positive relationships with participants.

Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude and create a welcoming environment for people of all fitness abilities.

Use creativity and participant feedback to brainstorm ideas for other group fitness opportunities. 

Follow all policies and procedures outlined by the Recreation Supervisor and the Norridge Park District in the submission of appropriate paperwork.

Have a willingness to donate services when the need arises in association with demo classes and special events. 

Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Norridge Park District Employee Manual.

Other tasks and duties may be assigned.


PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS

May spend portions of their shift standing and walking.

Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.

Must be able to hear conversational voice with or without a hearing aid.

Must be able to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.

Must be able to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses.

Must take precautionary measures to protect against weather.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Will be exposed to weather conditions which can include cold, rain, sun and extreme heat.

Will be exposed to cleaning supplies.

 Must possess good safety awareness and judgment.

Must possess problem solving skills.

Must be able to follow directions from supervisors.

Requirements


High school graduate preferred.

Must have prior training/certification in group fitness.

CPR and First Aid certification required, but can be obtained after hire.

Must have previous group fitness instructor experience.  

Must be available for a variety of hours to accommodate an array of class times including evenings and weekends.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

A great attitude is a must.
