Description

Overview: This individual is responsible for providing direct professional development and support for new educators to Franklin

Academy as well as educators new to the field of education.

Employment Schedule: 10-months, Full-Time

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The primary role of the Mentor Teacher is in leading the school’s new educator instructional training efforts by providing training, support, and professional development for building teacher capacity to improve student achievement.
  • The Mentor Teacher is a certified, highly qualified teacher who exhibits leadership skills and has an expertise in data analysis in order to improve instructional strategies, classroom management, and student development for the successful growth of all teachers and students.
  • The Mentor Teacher will provide specific support to teachers in effective instructional strategies and classroom management practices, and use research-based resources to support the mentoring process. 
  • The Mentor Teacher will work with teachers to identify specific professional development targets and prescribe an appropriate individualized plan for implementation as well as design school-wide professional development sessions that improve student learning and growth. 
  • He/She/They will be responsible for ensuring the effective analysis and use of data to inform professional development needs for teacher development.
  • The Mentor Teacher will work collaboratively with the school administration and teachers to implement an effective schedule and a system for increasing teacher capacity to implement effective instructional strategies for informing the continuous improvement of instruction through professional development needs.

Total Possible Compensation Package: $57,187.50

Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of the Franklin Academy instructional onboarding process inclusive of classroom setup, instructional
  • technology platforms and general readiness.
  • Serves as a campus expert related to instructional materials, their use, purpose and value for our investment.
  • Develops strong understanding and proficiency in the use of the adopted textbook series and supporting materials
  • provided in the teacher resource kits for all subject areas in order to help guide new educators.
  • Sustain learning through mentoring and coaching that occurs throughout the school day.
  • Assists teacher in transferring theory into practice.
  • Regularly models lessons for new teachers demonstrating best practices, and where necessary, implements a slow
  • release approach to ensure transfer of knowledge.
  • Creates and maintains a schedule for meeting with new educators to monitor progress toward instructional and
  • classroom management mastery.
  • Provides regular feedback (formal and informal) to new educators on their progress.
  • Provides regular reports to the school administration related to the progress of new educators.
  • Other duties as assigned.
