A Material Handler is a vital component of the manufacturing process. They play a critical role in meeting production demands by transporting incoming and outgoing materials to designated areas of the production facility, warehouse, and yard. This position is crucial in supplying the various manufacturing areas with needed materials from inventory, emptying hoppers for machine operators, and maintaining raw materials and finished product for easy location identification. Material Handlers safely and skillfully operate a forklift, cherry picker or other power drive equipment and load or unload material onto or from pallets, baskets, or shelves while accurately completing the required paperwork to reflect inventory levels. Forklift certifications are provided for all candidates upon hire regardless of certification status.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Operate equipment in a safe manner and use safe work habits.
- Assist Shipping in receiving and unloading trucks.
- Read and interpret the internal dispatch list and job orders to determine the items to be moved, gathered, distributed or shipped.
- Load, unload and sort materials onto or from pallets, racks, shelves or baskets.
- Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas throughout the production floor.
- Mark materials with identifying information using the appropriate methods.
- Record amounts of materials or items received or distributed into the ERP system.
- Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings.
- Maintain accurate storage locations in the warehouse and yard.
- Assist in the counting of physical inventory.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment including complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Teach and mentor other Material Handlers.
- Willingness to cross train and perform the work of other job tasks when necessary.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of forklift experience preferred.
- Experience in a Manufacturing Warehouse environment ideal.
- Basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, fractions and decimals.
- Basic computer skills, to accurately gather and input data from computer systems.
- Capability to lift 50 lbs with regularity and up to 70 lbs occasionally.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
- Employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. They must be able to see up close, at a distance, colors, peripheral, and depth perception to adjust focus.
