Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church located in Franklin, TN, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Church Facilities Maintenance Operator. The Church Facilities Maintenance Operator is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day functionality, cleanliness, safety and security of all Parish buildings and grounds. This includes HVAC systems, general repairs, providing coverage when needed in the custodial area and porter services. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, proactive, and committed to supporting the Parish’s mission by maintaining a welcoming, safe and well-functioning physical environment.
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Maintain all facility mechanical, electrical, lighting and plumbing systems in good working order, performing repairs or updating as needed (including laundry, and kitchen areas)
- Monitor and coordinate all Campus Doors / Closures to proper functions.
- Schedule all Door Access for key Events / Meetings per Church Calendar.
- Monitor / maintain all facility room and space temperatures, as required.
- Oversee and ensure general building cleaning and maintenance.
- Oversee and ensure landscaping, mowing, irrigation system, snow removal and ice salting functions are completed as appropriate
- Install and/or replace flooring, stairs and piping as needed.
- Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs and other parts of the building.
- Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the facility.
- Maintain and repair air conditioning and heating systems as required.
- Respond to facility emergencies promptly and coordinate with vendors as needed.
- Maintain a schedule for all preventive maintenance.
Security & Safety Systems
- Ensure fire, safety, and emergency systems are compliant with codes and functioning properly
- Review and support Security Camera operations and functions
- Schedule and attend required inspections
Janitorial & Custodial Oversight
- Assist janitorial staff or contracted cleaning services to ensure high standards of cleanliness
- Assist as needed for special events, including set-up for large gatherings
- Assist room set-ups, take-down, equipment storage to accommodate regular Parish meetings and special events
Oversee outside vendors on maintenance jobs out of scope
- Consult and coordinate with Parish technical volunteer advisors on major Parish systems to assure continuity in service (e.g., HVAC, church sound system, campus security system)
- Engage external service providers for specialized repairs or inspections
- Within contracting authority secure proposals and provide to supervisor for review and approval by Pastor or Director of Administration
Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, warranties, inspections, and service calls
- Develop and maintain a long-range maintenance and capital improvement plan for all campus facilities
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and security systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills and hands-on “MacGyver” fix-it abilities
- Experience with janitorial or custodial services
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical labor as needed
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with basic office technology (email, spreadsheets, scheduling software)
- Fully initiated Catholic in good standing
Preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or related field
- Trade certification (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) or facilities management certification
- Experience working in a school, church, or institutional environment
